before Ennis's last few fights, I would have favoured Ennis

But judging by Ennis' last 3 or 4 fights. I think Stanionis's educated pressure would pummel him to a decision.

This fight is happening next in April apparently with the winner being mandated to fight Giyasov. Number 1 and 2 at 147 fighting in a unification bout. Hopefully this dispels the narrative that Ennis was ducking Ortiz Jr.

I have never been fooled by the smoke and mirrors of Ennis claiming elites are avoiding him. I look at his first 20 fights and see he built his highlights up on opponents that had losing records and/or more than 10 losses in their first 25 bouts.

He claimed anytime anywhere for Crawford, then was offered the fight TWICE. By Top Rank and by the WBO and both times turned it down claiming loyalty to Showtime. But then goes back to talking about how Crawford is apparently avoiding him because he was trying to fight Spence instead of him.....lol.

Ennis only accomplishment occurred because Crawford beat Spence, who was babysitting the IBF for 5 years without a mandatory bout. Crawford gets stripped less than 5 weeks after becoming undisputed simply because he was legally tied to a rematch clause with Spence who eventually opted out of the clause months later.

Stanionis has shown himself to be, at the very least, game for competition. Ennis has struggle with lesser talent, so, I lean slightly towards ES to win this match up.

I used to favour Super Boots via stoppage but I see this as a closer affair now. Stan isn't as elusive as Karen but he hits a lot harder albeit he's not a one shot guy, is well schooled, has good punch variety and accuracy, and has a good chin, engine and a very tight guard.

That being said, coming from the region of the world he does it's a given he'll invariably get robbed by the three home judges if he doesn't knock Super Boots out or completely dominate the fight.

Boots isn't losing until he gets to MW. I stand by that.

Stanionis in particular is more along the line of what Boots really wants, someone to come to him so he can tee off on them. He won't have to chase.

I think Ennis just takes a close points decision here.

Negotiations taking place for it to happen in April.

Could be in either Philadelphia, Atlanta or Atlantic City.

I think it might be DAZN PPV though.

After the Ortiz debacle I really am not gonna put much onto "in negotiation" regarding Boots. I'm sure Norman was in negotiation as well when his counter offer got denied.

The Ortiz Jr fight was proposed by Riyadh Season and His Excellency at 154. Moving up to 154 would mean Ennis would vacate his World Title at 147 and never move back down again. Ennis has always said he wants to unify at 147 especially since he didn't win his world title in the ring. Ennis never ducked Ortiz Jr.

Norman Jr ducking Ennis is one of the biggest ducks this century. He was offered almost 2 million dollars to fight Ennis yet his father refused, now he's fighting for a few hundred thousand dollars on an undercard somewhere.

Except we wouldn't have to vacate his title. Win or lose against Virgil, he would have been able to go back down to 147 and keep his title.

Ennis is already tight at 147. If he moves up to 154 he will not move back down to 147. That's why it makes sense to try and get a unification at 147 and then move up.

Ortiz Jr should focus on Madrimov which is a fight I think he loses.
