beating one guy doesnt equal beating another guy. each fighter has a different set of tools that present different problems. boots is not a complete fighter. yes, hes better than the opposition hes facing, but thats not gonna translate across the board once he faces other talented fighters. like i said, charlo can fight, regardless of what the popular narrative is around here. might not be elite, but neither is boots at this point.
Hand speed, jab power, able to fight at all ranges, underrated defense, great chin, elite counterpunchung, best switch hitter in boxing, timing is tremendous as well, and power is Legit
Ennis is largely unproven, so hasn’t shown that he either is or is not elite yet, he’s in a gray area currently so I’ll set him to one side right now, even though he has looked good feasting on C level opponents. Vergil, again, is unproven and yet to even hold a title along with having serious health concerns floating over his career for the last two years, Maurice Hooker and Kava both gave him trouble early iirc and Bohachuk will be his sternest test so far as to whether he is as good as we believe he is. I’m also somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to Robert Garcia and his training methods. Shakur’d best opponent was, imo, Conçeicāo, who he had to thoroughly low blow to beat. He also looked less than stellar against Artem, De Los Santos, and Nakathila, none of whom are really considered as top level guys. Spence was always a one-dimensional fighter who, I believe, should have lost to Porter, who looked poor against a drained Brook before he gassed, and who just got the brakes beaten off him by Crawford. I never fully understood his inclusion on P4P lists in the first place, let alone after the drumming he received last July. Spence was a very good fighter but he fell short of being elite in my eyes.
You don't buy into the narrative that Boots is fighting guys smaller than him at 147. Charlo will be as big, if not bigger than Boots. Boots power may not have the same effect and Charlo's shots may have a greater effect. Interested to see how that fight would go.
If they fought in 3 months Boots. But the absolute best version of little Twin would probably be the worst type of opponent Boots would run into at the weight. A larger, nearly as physically gifted quick gunslinger with a crazy chin. I think the prime version might be gone (him and his brother). They're 35 and both relied way more on athletic ability than skillset. Honestly other than a prime, ready to go Charlo, I think Boots potentially could run the score up on everybody at JMW, that includes Tim T and Fundora.
Boots passing the eye test does not make him elite. You become elite by beating the best. Not because he looks like it.
