Compubox Punch stats vs Austin Trout Hurd 265/753 @ 35.19% (10 rounds) (Trout 208/673, 30.91%) Lara 150/446 @ 33.63% (97/487, 19.91%) Canelo 124/431 @ 28.77% (154/769, 20.03%) Jermall 130/474 @ 27.43% (117/497, 23.54%) Hurd threw 300 more punchers than the other blokes did in 2 fewer rounds and had a higher connect %. Hurd was also getting more accurate as the fight progressed which isn't unexpected, he has great stamina and Trout slowed and became an easier target. *I don't rate compubox highly at all so I appreciate the numbers may be dubious, but people tend to talk like Hurd is a caveman. The truth is it's tough going 12 rounds with Jarrett Hurd!!!! Also Hurd vs Harrison 152/424 @ 35.85% (8.5 rounds)
The thing is He is average , not that bad, not superbly good. He can cause trouble to most of the guys , but the top ones will beat him.
@james5000 You are right about 154, but Hurd has the size to compete even in CW. He needs to move up to middleweight, where the big sharks are waiting. Could you rate his chances against Canelo, Golovkin, Jacobs, BJS, and the Charlo brothers?
Just curious, can you post Trout’s connect percentage on these opponents? Without knowing the numbers, I have a feeling that Hurd’s higher connect percentage against Trout has to do with his willingness to sacrifice defense for offense, thereby walking through fire to get into prime position to land his punches.
I don't get the hate for Hurd, he's a fun fighter and brings great intensity. He's got a good chin, gas tank and good body punching. He's no joke.
If he can make 154 and wants to unify there (he has already expressed his desire to do so) why shouldn't he stay and do so? There are at least a couple of potentially intriguing matchups there to be made, which would establish him as the clear number one in the division.
To an extant, yeah, though he became more cognizant of defense as time went on against Trout. It's not something he completely forsakes, especially in the second half of the fight. For what it's worth, Trout landed 208 of 673, or 31 % against Trout.
What does this thread have to do with Chris Eubank Jr? I know there must be a tenuous link somewhere...
Hurd should have an easy time decisioning Lara. 116-112 type fight. Hurd is big, hits hard, relentless pressure fighter with great stamina. That's a lethal combination. Trout fight showed a lot. this fight is all wrong for Lara.
What I find interesting about Hurd is he keeps coming. There are times where you think he is about to be taken out or hurt and he ups his game. That is what he did against Trout. Trout looked like he may win that fight until Hurd increased the pressure, and Trout crumbled.
Put him in against Lara and we will check his accuracy. See if he can land a whole bunch of fantasy body shots.........
Trout frontran and gassed. The fight is all wrong for Hurd. Lara will do like usual, come out and box, get a lead and force you to come. Guy is a master of ring generalship. Showed that against canelo.
You think Hurd is going to be forced to come lol. By hook or by crook he will be coming, and Lara better bring a helmet and gun lol Hurd is a different animal, Hurd is so big, strong, fit and tough for the weight. I haven't seen anyone that brings all of those attributes @ 154, big guys tend to be drained and brittle, they still might be big and strong but no stamina and chinny. Hurd is a monster and his length and tenacity will overwhelm Lara's speed and silky skills.
Jarrett "Hurricane" Hurd (Swift just doesn't do it for me) is one of my favorite fighters to watch today. His grit and determination combined with his skill and physical attributes make him a tough fight for any of the best fighters around his weight. I think it is possible for him to become the man at 154. The two toughest fights for him there are obviously Lara and Jermell Charlo. Against Lara, Hurd would win a decision. As slick as Lara is, Hurd's size, youth, and relentless pressure would win the day against the ageing Cuban. Lara wouldn't throw enough punches so he'd be out-hustled. He wouldn't put himself at risk so he would survive the 12. Jermell is a different kettle of fish though. He's got the youth, athleticism, and fire to beat Hurd soundly. It could actually even be an embarrassing night for Hurd as he finds Charlo too elusive and too sharp for him. My opinion there is down to how highly I rate Charlo though rather than any knock on the excellent Hurd.
