Story still ongoing. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/man-shot-in-richmond/story-e6frf7jo-1225992755233 POLICE are still hunting a man from a prominent Melbourne sporting family after he allegedly shot his brother this morning. Jason Berry, a former trainer at Essendon, was in a stable condition last night after being shot at a house in Somerset St owned by their father, boxing trainer Leo Berry. Police are searching for Jason Berry's brother Brendon, who has a history of mental illness, after he allegedly held a sawn-off rifle to his brother's head. Witnesses saw Mr Berry stumble out of the house and on to the road, as his brother ran off. Another one of the boxing great's sons, Brad Berry, confirmed the violent altercation. "It is in the hands of the police at the moment and it is a very serious matter, so I have been advised not to comment," Mr Barry said. An Essendon Football Club source said Jason Berry had been employed as a fitness adviser for the club until he lost the job in a restructure last month. The Richmond shopping district around Bridge Rd was thrown into a panic as the police helicopter circled, and special operations units and sniffer dogs checked streets. Neighbours, and motorists, who had parked to attend a nearby market, attended to the victim as he lay on the road. "It was quite obvious he had been shot, there was a lot of blood on his chest," said one woman, who was getting out of her car when the shots were fired. "A couple of us put pressure on the wound until the ambulance arrived." Police found the alleged weapon on the roof of a house in nearby Newlands St. Richmond Sen-Sgt Simon Stevens urged anyone who had seen Brandon Berry to call police. Berry is in his late 30s, with dark hair. He was last seen wearing dark tracksuit pants and a dark shirt. A spokesman for The Alfred hospital said the victim had had urgent surgery but was in a stable condition.
"The suspect is a 38-year-old man of medium build, 183 centimetres tall, with dark untidy hair and stubble. He was last seen wearing a dark T-shirt and dark tracksuit pants." This description fits the profile of hundreds upon hundreds of potential suspects from Richmond through to Collingwood Abottsford, wonder if he was seen leaving in a Commodore?
