Really touched by the interview Jason and father John gave in this week's Boxing News. It is an awful thing for both of them to get through but I wish them well and I hope that the benefit night for Jason went well. I also thought the BBBoC statement (a footnote at the end of the article) was a bit crass, and an over reaction to some of the less than comfortable views expressed in the article. I mean, it is bull**** that they couldnt get a stretcher out of a closer exit point because a 4x4 was parked in front of it. If a boxer or a boxers familly speaks out - then they should have the decency to take the criticism on board without over sensitive statements. Anyway, I would like to wish the Rushton family all the best for the future:good
There was a hardcore night for Jason on Friday in Doncaster. The Board had a table, Franks Warren and Maloney had a table and the Hattons had a table. Proper fight people. The turn out of boxers was sensational - Joe Murray, Anthony Crolla, Ryan Rhodes, Martin Murray, Richard Towers, Craig Watson, Dean Bramhald, Junior Witter, Jamie McDonnell, Jamie Moore, Kell Brook, Carl Baker, Jon Jo Irwin. Jason's speech at the end was the most moving I've ever heard by an ex-boxer. It was a delight to be involved with something where none of the sleaze-pots who deliver Hearns, Tyson, Duran etc were anywhwere to be seen. ALL the money went to Jason - fighters signed autographs for free and the pictures cost just a tenner - how refreshing. It's time proper boxing fans took a long, long and hard look at the celebrity-fighter-talking circuit and start asking where does all the money go. Ricky Hatton spends hours signing his pictures at dinners for free - why should fans have to pay Tyson 50 quid or Duran 30 quid for an autograph when they have a forked out 150-250 for a shite meal, 30-80 for a picture? And, not one penny from the After Dinner circuit finds its way back to the Board of Control's benevolent fund. If Don King or Frank Warren was pulling stunts like this the internet would be in uproar! Jason's night was a pleasure to be involved with. Adios.
Thanks for posting Buncey - I am delighted to hear all of that and it is great that the night went so well for Jason and boxing came out in force to support him including the bbboc:good I am planning to run the New York marathon next year for a boxing charity (I would do it for Jason if I could find a way - the only way to register for the New York marathon is via a charity). If anyone can offer suggestions on a good boxing charity or how I could do it for Jason, please PM me.:good
Nice one Gasman...:good When you find your charity get your justgiving link up on here, I am sure that you will raise plenty...:yep If you can't get in the New York Marathon try the Berlin or Dublin Marathon, easy to get into and are both great runs...:yep I did not get through the ballot for London next year so am probably going to run Edinburgh instead...:good
