UFC veteran Jason Tan speaks on the upcoming 'Ground Control' event, scheduled to be held on November 14th at the George Carnell Centre in Manchester. Some interesting snippets:

Q: Why should people turn up to 'Ground Control'?

A: If you want to see some great grappling from some of the best guys in the UK then its a must to come. Also, if you havent competed before its a great competition to start in. We have beginners, intermediate and advanced divisions, and weight classes so no matter how long you have been training you can jump in. We guarantee every competitor at least two bouts so if you lose in your first you can go again. Also, some of our selected advanced division winners at this next event will gain qualification to the super bout tourney at our next event, so if you are good you should get involved!

Q: No Gi grappling (or grappling in general) has often been criticised for being a poor spectator sport which is difficult to keep track of. How do you reckon 'Ground Control' tries to tackle this?

A: I dont agree. Of course to just any normal person, yes, it is difficult to watch. It's not like MMA where it's plain to see what is going on a lot of the time. But I think for guys who compete in the sport or train grappling, these events are a must to go to. You will learn so much more from watching grappling. My own Jiu Jitsu has a lot of influence from watching guys compete, and we allow guys to film at our event so feel free to bring your camcorders. We have at least one four man super bout tournament taking place at the next event. We will try and put this on when no other bouts are taking place. The four guys are Italo Ferreira, Paul *******, Luiz Tosta and Leigh Remedios. I think this is going to be great to watch!

Ground control obviously pickin up some momentum :good

Good to see , i must say ive always been impressed bt the standard of grappling @ Ground control !!!
