I'm really looking forward to this one. Franco is one of the numerous Cubans to defect in the last several years, though he hasn't been as highly touted as the likes of Lara. He was 2-2 against Gamboa in the amateurs, and also mixed it up with the likes of Guillermo Rigodeaux and Erislandy Lara. Pretty steep competition. I've heard that Franco was screwed in his last fight against an Argentinian, in a match held where else... Argentina. Supposedly even the announcers had it 9-3 Franco. I'm not quite sure why Fortuna is a 6 to 1 favorite against Franco... How do you guys see this one playing out? This content is protected
IB, did you score Franco's last fight against the Argentinian? Also, how is Franco's work to the body? Does he invest with bodywork?
It should have gone Franco's way, to be honest - but that is exactly my point about his style. Judge unfriendly to the max. Munoz was the aggressor, in his own home town, and Franco did just enough things wrong to give them enough rope to form a noose around his neck. (often playing coy with light amateur-style scoring combos while Munoz threw real sit-up-and-take-notice punches but missed...then at times getting macho and mixing it up with Munoz on the inside but failing to impose himself against the bigger stronger guy...DUH...) Even if he doesn't taste and gag on Fortuna's power, he will be punished for having the more technically perfect but much less impressive style - and Sparingly. Mostly jabs and shoeshines. A pity, because he digs well downstairs when he bothers (shown especially against Eric Hunter) and with his diminutive stature it would seem an obvious tack - especially with his utter dearth of natural pop making headhunting all but useless for him. He doesn't like it to his own body, however. It's by no means beneath him to fake receiving a low blow when struck nicely.
Hmm. Good stuff IB. This match is also at Feather, which Fortuna failed to make last time. I'm wondering how he'll look at the weigh ins.
