I read that they are setting up this fight for the summer. If this is the case I see a matchup with Garcia as I think he will beat Caballero. So, a Fortuna vs. Garcia seems very interesting although I know most fans would not give Fortuna a chance. However, it seems like Fortuna always surprises when he steps into the ring. What I don't like about Fortuna is that he gets a little reckless at times because I have seen him box beautifully when he so chooses. So, we shall see but I think it's a real good match-up. No doubt about it. I do think a win for Fortuna would mean more for his career than it would mean for Garcia. What do you guys think?

It would be sick. FW is awesome right now, even with Gamboa benched.

fortuna is a talented kid. he can box and he can brawl. has underrated defense plus good power. hes with sarmiento, martinez's trainer. so, his future is in good hands. the sky is the limit for him

I feel the same way. The kid is really talented and I think if he can get the WBA belt by beating Garcia which is what would be on the line it would really bring him on the scene. But it will definitely be a tough fight because Garcia has real skills too. We'll see.

Whoa. Either of them is WAY too much too soon for Fortuna.

Yeah, he demolished a fellow unbeaten prospect on ESPN and looked really impressive - but let's slow down.

The best fighter he's ever been in with is still Micky Roman. (who would be shut out by Caballero and KTFO by Garcia)

Well, I did read the article on this so I'm not making it up. Although, it's not official yet it seems that Javier Fortuna's promotor want the purse bid for this or at least that's the rumor. But yeah perhaps it's a little too soon?

It's not like Mikey has fought better comp, even though his fights were televised. Caballero has experience in spades, but Fortuna has the goods to beat him right now.

:blood WTF? Yes he has. Literally every win he has going back to Villa in 2010 is better than anything Fortuna has yet. Do you know anything about any of those fighters or are you just seeing the number of losses on some of their records and assuming they aren't good?

I do agree that Caballero is the "easier" route for Fortuna (still awkward as hell to deal with, but Fortuna's speed and power could get to him as he has looked like old festering dog **** in most of his recent fights), but I don't think Cabs is getting past Mikey either.

Fortuna has the skills but he seems too interested in always ending things quickly. It seems that when he realizes that his foe can take his best punches he then turns it around and relies on his boxing skills. I've seen this at least twice. But I think if he catches either Garcia or Caballero with a flush punch it will be good nite! He seems to have really good power.

I don't even know who you have in mind. I think Evans was a more legit prospect than Remillard, at least not less. Roman is about the same level as Lock, who's probably the best guy Mikey faced. Concepcion is the best name i guess, but he was a journeyman by the time Mikey got to him.

Villa - better than his record, made Mtagwa go life and death around the same time Mtagwa himself did the same thing to JML. Good fighter.

Lock - better than his record, better than Mickey Roman - not the same level. Good fighter.

Lontchi - had beaten a former champ and a couple of contenders before standing up to 9 rounds of punishment from a prime and aggressive JML. Only lasted 5 with Mikey. Lopez retired him on his stool. Mikey knocked him clean out.

Guzman - good fighter. Comparable to Roman.

Martinez - VERY good journeyman, went back and forth with JC Burgos in a war. Held Edner Cherry to a MD. Better than Roman.

Navarette - good, tricky, tough prospect tester. Not necessarily better than his record but a good test. Lost wide to Roman, so obviously not as good as Mickey - but not a bum either.

That's six, plus Remillard and Concepcion - makes eight solid wins in a row in two years. Fortuna so far has two wins that are at that level, and there are very few of Garcia's eight that either of them is better than.

Six months ago he'd fought nobody.

Well, you have it all down to the t. However, what's Garcia's amateur record? I have not looked into that. Fortuna has a pretty good one with over 300 amateur fights and few losses. So, although it's different at the pro's that counts a whole lot.
