Oh, almost forgot Walter Estrada. Better than anything on Javier's record yet. (another guy who's much better than all his losses indicate - look at all the upsets he's sprung, some over world class fighters)
Mikey has a very strong amateur background himself. Not as many bouts as Fortuna, only about 60 I think, but mostly all were wins.
Fortuna: I did well in my amateur career. It shined a lot internationally and nationally, said Fortuna, a very quiet, very humble young man, when I asked him to list his credits. I participated in the first Pan American Junior Championship in the Federal District of Mexico in 2003. After that, I participated in a World Junior Championship in India. In Morocco, I won bronze. In the Pan American [games], I won silver. After that, I entered a tournament in Ecuador and I won gold and from there, I went to the Independence Cup in Santo Domingo, where Cuba, United States, Puerto Rico and several countries participate. I won two gold medals there in the Independence Cup. In my first year in Copa Romana, I participated [at] 16 years of age. I was one of the youngest. I won bronze. Next time there, I won silver. In national tournaments, I won gold and in youth tournaments, I won a gold and a silver. Not bad.....
A little fast here. Lets put him in with Antonio Escalante, Who bet Roman in a war and has looked good lately. Micky Roman was Fortuna's biggest win but Evans KO 1 win was also HUGE seeing as I thought this Yuandale Evans looked good in his last fight verses Emmanuel Lucero on FNF. I think Fortuna is one of the best prospects FYI, He is at that point where we will find out what's hype and whats substance, And I see a lot of talent myself but we'll see what happens!
Well, all I know is that if he ends up fighting Garcia he needs to come in there and box and not with the mentality to get him out of there in the first round. If tries to knock him out like that it will probably cost him dearly if not the fight completely. I've seen him box and use the ring beautifully so it's really up to him as to what he chooses to do.
So he's beaten more journeyman, maybe of slightly higher caliber, cause Fortuna has been matched more aggressively. Don't get me wrong, Mikey could be the guy to rule 126, but still hasn't beaten a top 10 guy. Btw, Derrick Wilson would beat most of those guys, and I didn't even realize Fortuna fought Lorenzo, who's the more legit than all of them.
At the end of the day I still think it's a 50/50 fight. Funny cuz I almost thought the same thing with Evans...almost that is. Anyhow, this will be a test for the both of them if it happens.
This division is looking very good. I hope all these guys stay active. But I think that even as a business decision they should build that fight up between Garcia and Fortuna...it would probably be bigger in the future...too soon I think. No?
