Pumita Martínez is getting the best of the exchanges, a little busier and throwing more spitefully but Pitbull giving it back in good measure.

 

They're going to a technical decision as Botelli was hurt by a foul. I think it was a rabbit punch, ruled accidental. They're putting an icepack on the base of his neck as they await the cards.

Anticlimactic but fun while it lasted. I'm just glad it went long enough to reach the scorecards and we didn't get a 2nd NC or technical draw in one day.

Bobirzhan Mominov vs. José Ignacio Balcedo, 6 rounds @ welterweight

 

Mominov is yet another young Kazakh following in the footsteps Golovkin has trail-blazed for his countrymen into the West, except he sampled and has decided to forgo the USA in favor of currently basing himself & training in Argentina. He's the chief sparring partner for Maciel.

Balcedo is bravely sacrificing his 1-0 record stepping in on short notice in his sophomore pro effort to substitute for Gabriel Fernando Puñalef Calfin.

 

Round 1

Mominov is abusing Balcedo with the 1-2, landing it at will from mid-range. Balcedo down, slip. Time in. Balcedo throwing wide hooking combos up top and diving forward to shoeshine the body, resulting in some awkward clinches as Mominov keeps lining up straight power shots. When they're separated Mominov is unrolling a long steady heat-seeker jab, finding Balcedo wherever he roams.

Round 2

Mominov is forcing exchanges with the lead right hand, driving Balcedo into the ropes. Balcedo is willing to slug it out, deciding to live & die by the sword and trust in his own power. At first this seems perhaps a well-founded trust as his left hooks on the body momentarily force Mominov to relent some ground, but Mominov was just baiting him into a trap. Mominov feints a jab, twitches away, feints a pull-counter, twitches away, feints an uppercut, and then BAM! Real uppercut. That's going to be it.
