Am I crazy for thinking Mendoza's originally scheduled opponent, Renan "Lil Pacquiao" Trongco, would've put up a much better fight than Fuentes? (despite the slightly worse numerical record after 20 bouts each)

Not that either Trongco or Fuentes should have ever been slotted to challenge for a world title belt in the first place, but at least in the Filipino's case he does have a bit of proven h2h worth as his only two defeats since 2006 came against world class opposition in Sammy Gutierrez and Hekkie Budler - dropping the former and giving the latter hell in a brawl. That alone trumps anything the Colombian has ever done in the ring...along with never getting humiliatingly blown out early by a chubby, apathetic, handicapped (made to wear heavier gloves as penalty for coming in overweight) Casimero. :!:

Plus, then Mendoza would have been facing a fellow southpaw.

I'm not saying Trongco would have been likely to spring the upset, but we may have actually had a decent fight of some length.
