and this win/loss says a couple things about both fighters #1 roy is shot #2 roy had a bad game plan #3 joey is better than most thought but #4 This win doesn't boost calzaghe's all time placement #5 joe earned some us respect #6 joe should have made this trip a long time ago
roy looked ridiculously horrible... i cant even imagine what the announcers were saying... i was at a bar and couldn't hear .. he was so fearful of a damaging shot it was sad to watch i think calzaghe's pit patting is a good technique because in essence what it does is put you to sleep (defensively) then when you assume that nothing strong is coming through your guard calzaghe mixes in some strong shots... a very confusing technique to be honest.... roy played directly into by just leaning on the ropes like an idiot.. your the most vulnerable there because your just a sitting duck... i think your better off fighting in the center of the ring against calz... what were the announcers saying throughout the fight and what was the post fight interviews like?
I couldnt tell you what the HBO crew were saying as I watched the Setanta coverage....... But the setanta broadcast included HBO's post fight interviews both fighters were very respectful of each other Joe thanked Roy for giving him the opportunity to fight him... Kellerman asked both what was next for each of them and tried to get Joe to call out Chad Dawson to which Joe replied that Kellerman was in the wrong profession and should be a Promoter
lmao max kellerman be pissing me off with that.... he always try to set up someone calling out the next man
correct me if im wrong but last night i watched on setanta i thought i heard roy ask the referee whether he would stop the fight if he "turtled" up and let calzaghe hit him or something to that effect? if im right does that seem as odd to anyone else as it does to me that jones was expecting to just be able to stick the guard up and let joe hit him and rack up points?
p.s this was an hour or so before when the referee gave his instructions in the dressing rooms of the fighters
All you had to do was watch the 24/7 to see Roy Jones Jr's very ho-hum attitude to know he wasn't going to in it for much of the fight. Calzaghe did what he was expected to do and props to him. Hopefully they both retire.
Listen if Roy had stepped in to collect a check then he would have stopped the fight not too long after that cut started gushing blood in his eye. I just think Roy tried his best came to the conclusion that he could not win. Did you hear him in the corner: Roy: I cant catch him...I trying but I cant catch him Cornerman: I know champ. Those are the words of a defeated fighter. Roy just got beat last night. He was outmatched.
