Yep , Joe Calzaghe 46-0-0 the Former Undisputed Super MiddleWeight of the World retires Unbeaten . Remarkable achivement when you consider he was trained from the get go by his then boxing novice father Enzo and refused point blank to BUY ( As most do ) any other to train him up in the shed in Pissy valley . Good on you Joe boy you done us proud . Right moving on check out a kid who trains with Joe named Nathan Cleverly , He currently holds the Commonwealth L/Heavy title and will be a star of the future if he keeps on track .

 

A wise decision IMO. Very few leave this sport with all their marbles. Even fewer leave it as an undefeated champion.

 

You reckon this might be a temporary retirement while B-Hop and Dawson sort out who is top dog there?

 

well deserved, a fantastic fighter - however i just wish he had moved up to LHW earlier in search of better competition

 

Never been a big fan of Calzaghe, but congrats on a stellar hall of fame career.

 

I enjoyed seeing him fight in the last few years. Seems like a likable guy too with a good sense of humour.

good on him retiring undefeated 2 division champ.on a personal note i loved how he made the yanks on the GF look stupid and when beating kessler thinning out the forum of many nuthugging Danes like deram, the best,new wind and faetter.at least one of my predictions for 2009 came true.**** i got the moseley one very wrong.atschatsch

 

The guy seems nice and wish him all the best... Still, his long term association with Warren and his mostly padded record (in my opinion) mean he will not be remembered for being 'great' by me and quite a lot of boxing fans.

He glorified himself because of his 0 (which was only really at risk a couple of times) and didn't take half the fights I would have liked him to... I always saw him as quite beatable by the right fighter and that he never tested himself against said fighters when in their prime.

Lacy was overrated (a word i dont use much)
He waited too long for Hopkins and Jones
Kessler is his best win and full credit to him for it - but Kessler is and never will be a Hopkins or Roy Jones

Calzaghe's '0' is his only asset and even it's not THAT valuable when you look at his average competition

 

One the best fighters of his era..in a H2H sense.

Could plonk him in any decade of the modern era and he would be a top fighter.

Very impressive athlete with a unique and difficult style to contend with.

Despite his patchy resume..A HOF fighter he will be and one of the greats of this time.

 

HOF but i cant really look at what he has done and say he is a legend of an ATG . . . Just my opinion . . .
