He was fantastic, in his prime was the quintessential pressure fighter. The bottom line is, the fact that even at his best(the version that beat Rosario) he was capable of being beaten by a few fighters around his weight throughout history, which doesn't take away from Chavez, but rather shows you how stacked the history of boxing has been.

The man was Culiacan Sinaloa. He partied with Mexico's biggest pop stars. I mean come on he came in to the Sweet Pea afer partying with Thalia. The Mexican Press did several articles on this. His partying and sex is what made him lose his money. Half to the ex-wife, half to the lifestyle. I really don't have a source but watch the Sweet Pea fight again.

Now he lost to Sweet Pea because of partying? That's crossing the line, you're either making up excuses or taking excuses from a clearly biased source. I've watched the fight, Chavez fought like Chavez, he was simply not at the best stage of his career, and dealing with a style he'd never dealt with before, by a caliber of fighter he'd never dealt with before.

What>>?? I never said he lost to Sweet Pea because of that. He lost because he couldn't handle Pea's style.

I was asked for the source on his partying and being coked out. I brought it up because by then he was coked out and partying with pop stars. Never did I try to make an excuse for him losing.

Yes, I remember a close first fight that I narrowly scored for Pea, and a clearer second fight.

That fight is, in fact, one that you could score for Rivera, it was that close, but if that's the case, you're going to have to take into account his "losses" to Ramirez and De La Hoya and his "draw" to Chavez.

McGirt simply wasn't a loss at all, I think you're the only one I've heard argue it. Maybe you should watch it again. Clear for Pea. He was never in any real danger of losing in his prime, never really even put in danger from 135-140, and didn't start to slide until the mid 90's. The Ramirez fight was, IMO, the last we saw of prime Whitaker. The last time he looked great. Though he was able to, somehow, come back from lackluster performances against Rivera and Hurtado, and fight well against De La Hoya(a win in my book and many others).

Don't get me riled up now. There were magazine's that had Mc Girt winning and I never had any boxing magazines that had Whitaker a head. It is amazing how people cry for Whitaker every time that a decision doesn't go his way but never say a word when he gets a gift decision. I guess you and I will never see Mc Girt-Whitaker I the same.
We'll just have to agree to disagree.:deal

I'm a huge Chavez fan but I feel Duran would get the better of him although I feel it would be closer then most people think like 7-5.
