Randy asked Carl if he was ok...

he got no reply only Carl shaking the cobwebs out of his scrambled noodles...

He then asked for him to put his hands up but Carl had his arms by his side... still reeling..

When Carl was interviewed he said it was bull**** and all political to set the Holyfield match up.. Carl also said he put his hands up and said i am alright.. Carl never uttered a word until the fight was completely waved off.. Carl didn't know what day it was.. Randy could do little else..:good

Do football referees blow the whistle early because it looks like the other team wont score? We have rules in sports, it doesn't matter if there were 3 seconds or three minutes left on the clock, if a fighter is deemed to be ****ed up (as Taylor obviously was) the fight gets stopped. Simple rules. Stupid thread.

This fight happened in 1990, and people are still whining about the stoppage? Must be fat, bald nobody's who have no life, and have nothing better to do than complain about a fight JCC Superstar won. Pathetic. Happy Birthday, Turkey's!!!!

i watched the fight again the other day steele barely gave taylor a chance to respond he said are you ok are you ok in quick succession then waved it off instantly giving taylor no chance to reply. If he would have done his job properly before resuming the fight (speakign hypothetically) he would have made sure chavez was in a neutral corner before resuming thereby eating up more seconds off the clock. The guy was planted in that fight for a reason

    that actually = disqualification

and a round is 3 minutes long. not 2 min 58. when he did not respond to the referees question, that means chavez did his job inside the alloted time frame. why should you show favor to taylor just because he looked to be winning the fight and allow the clock to run down.

    No he didn't.

That's just an exaggeration. Taylor was good enough to move up in weight a year later and defeat an undefeated world champ.

The numerous beatings caught up to him, with Chavez being the worst one. Being a Philly fighter, I can imagine him in numerous gym wars as well.

Why do people say it was merely from this fight?

He took a good deal of punishment throughout his career, in the gym and in the ring.

If the referee thinks a fighter is unable to continue, then he has every right to stop the fight.

JCC forced the stoppage by doing sufficient damage to Taylor...to the point where he was unable to respond to the referee when asked to do so. Fair stoppage IMO.

    The time is irrelevant.

The same clowns who continually claim that Chavez-Taylor was a robbery, and that Taylor was way ahead.......are also the same clowns who would claim that Chavez' punches were'nt effective against Pernell Whitkaker.......to the Whitaker fight they yell and scream Chavez was'nt effective......yet in a fight where Chavez punches were ultra effective, continually battering and systematically beating down Meldrick Taylor......ultra effective punch after ultra effective punch......to that these clowns say that Chavez' EFFECTIVE PUNCHING is negated by Meldrick Taylor's non-effective but more connects argument.

If ever a fighter landed clearly the more effective connects, it was Chavez, in Chavez vs Taylor!

.....yet it seems like clowns like to change the criteria from fight to fight to suit their own agenda and biases!

I actualy think it's one of the better stoppages in boxing history. Not because it's nessecarily a nice stoppage, but because the fight was stopped at exactly the right time. Meldrick was gone. it wasn't too early, or too late (how could it be any later) it was just right. Hypothetically, if Meldrick had taken another quick combo before the bell, who knows what could've happened to him? This is JCC, one of the most hurtful punchers in history, evident by Meldrick's face coming into the final round.

Meldrick should've boxed clever and won the decision but he wanted all the glory and went toe-to-toe with everything to lose.

    That was the bad decision.

It was the right thing to do. Judge the last 5 second as you would any.

There was nothing wrong with the stoppage. I dont see were the controversy comes from. If you dont respond to a simple question, you have no right to continue fighting.

But, Whitaker was clearly robbed against Chavez. The hell is your problem.
