A little bit over rated imo yeah. He's a beast but some people act like he's unbeatable and even bigger guys stand no chance against him. It happens in boxing all the time though. I haven't actually watched that video yet btw.
"GGG to me... Fan's might take this the wrong way but... is overrated. A guy told me that he (GGG) can knockout Marvin Hagler. I said you must be on CRACK, Gotta be a CRACKHEAD to say that" - JDJ
He clearly thinks very positively of Golovkin. Also doesn't think he should bother moving up and that his resume problems are "not his fault." Was this thread supposed to reflect poorly on Golovkin?
Same here, on all counts. I'm still a huge fan, he's a monster, but it's easy to take things a little too far.
From a historical perspective I agree, he has not accomplished anywhere near enough or at that highest level to be in the conversation historically. At MW, at this point in time, his dominance is apparent. That has to do with the fact that he is a very capable competitor, but just as much has to do with the fact that his stylistic foil does not exist in the MW division (at the moment). The closest foil to his style was Curtis (quick feet, quick hands, good counter puncher, fairly durable) and we know how the turned out. Curtis lacked the ability to box and counter on the move without being hit. He's a good catch and counter guy, but that isn't the best style to have when what he's catching is so heavy. No one else at MW currently has the style to beat Golovkin. A couple at SMW have the potential and a couple at JMW (if they naturally grow into MW).
Don't blame the thread starter. The problem is with the people who made the video. This is their "schtick;" this is what they do. FraudHype is an American outfit. They seem kind of like "America always #1" types. Now you have a non-American guy who is 5 defenses away from breaking the MW record for most consecutive defenses ever. And he's on track to take that record away from an American fighter. Oh and by the way, I'm American and those guys embarrass me. Also, FraudHype have always been big supporters of Mayweather, and Mayweather ducked Golovkin. So that gives them even more reason to try to run down Golovkin. Jackson was an excellent fighter in his time. 36-4, former champion in multiple divisions. Started his career 32-0. Would Jackson have survived a fight against the "overrated" Golovkin? No, he would have been knocked out. Jealousy is a difficult thing. Also for Jackson, he works with a fighter (Kov) who is trying to get attention for himself and away from Golovkin. So there is that angle, too.
Of course it's in danger. We're only 5 defenses away from it being broken. No one has come as close to Hopkins as Golovkin has: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middleweight#Longest_reigning_middleweight_champions ...and there doesn't look like a real MW threat to Golovkin at the moment. Who's going to stop him? Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters ever. But you have to accept that sometimes someone comes along who might be better than you or who, at least, might break your records. As far as people saying Golovkin would knock out Hagler, yeah I don't know about that one. Hagler was a hell of a fighter and had a great chin. He was hurt in his career at times (Hearns the most notable, I believe), but I respect Hagler and anyone who doesn't it just dumb. Actually, Golovkin reminds me of Hagler. Both guys with superior technical ability but who also could really crack and who had great chins. That would have been a great fight.
No, "we're" not. Interim titles defenses, which is the "title" Bumlovkin was defending up until recently, do NOT qualify as legitimate title defenses. When Hopkins was defending his IBF title, there was no "Super" IBF World champion above him - as was the case when Bumlovkin was defending his *Interim* WBA title while Felix Sturm was the REAL WBA 160lb champion. Please stop with the bold faced LIES...
:good I used to go on F-Hype a lot a few years ago, but I haven't been on for a while now. I've no issue with what JDJ has said and you've made some good points. But Nay Sayer has only posted it because he hates GG, and this is how he gets his kicks. His main aim here was to find people who agreed with JDJ so they can all hate on GG together.
