Even though Sergey Kovalev is coming off a huge win over Bernard Hopkins in which he showed good skills and strategy to go along with his power, there almost always is room for improvement.

And so the question was posed to the fighter and his trainer, John David Jackson: What work still needs to be done?

Kovalev needs, a better inside game, Jackson responded.

“No one has really been able to fight him on the inside,” Jackson said. “That’s going to come some point and time in his career.”

Kovalev, meanwhile, was thinking more of what had gone wrong in his shutout over Hopkins, though he wasn’t willing to divulge details.

“I had a lot of mistakes in this fight,” he said, “but I will be keeping secret the mistakes, because I don’t want to open my mistakes for everybody, to the public.”
