Never thought that would happen in a million years.

The JDS of a few years ago would have blown out Overroid. He should seriously consider retirement, he already looked super shot in his previous fight against Miocic.

I agree. Damaged goods at this point. I'm shocked at how bad he looked.

Overeem is a hell of a fighter. When he's on song he can be bad news for anybody. Don't see it as that much of a shock.

Overeem's tenure in the UFC has been mediocre at best. The dude was 3-3 in his last 6 fight coming in to this one and had been brutally knocked out 3 times. He only won this fight because JDS is shot to bits.

I honestly can't recall seeing a fighter deteriorate so quickly. Not long ago he was was one of the fastest guys in the division, now he's one of the slowest. His timing, reflexes etc are gone. A young JDS destroyed Werdum, just imagine how much of a mismatch that would be now.

When this fight was first discussed, JDS was the winner. Now, Overeem looks roid free and able to execute game plans. JDS would have done much better with the more free swinging Overeem of yesteryear. JDS struggled to pull the trigger.

    A real shame

Cain ruined him. That he was still able to have an absolute war with Miocic shows how insanely tough the guy was, but that fight essentially finished what was left of him

Reem ducked him for years, then like a cowardly vulture feasted on a pale shadow of a once formidable fighter

    Really hope he retires now

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. The losses to Cain ruined him and the war with Miocic more likely than not will be his last good performance. I worried about his well being after the Cain fights, Never mind now after Miocic and this. Time to call it a day before it's too late.

Dos Santos boxing is very over rated. He does well with flat footed guys that let him control the distance. Overeem used a lot of movement, and also has good reach. I think after he tagged Dos Santos in that first round, it made Dos Santos leary of just trying to run in. Overeem's power kept him honest. The one time that Overeem got corner against the cage is usually his KO sequence, because a shot usually gets through the guard and touches that jaw. For whatever reason Dos Santos through a little weak combination, and then stepped out. No, keep flurry on his ****, he would have got through and probably KO'd him, as that is what usually happens when Overeem just covers up and lets the opponent tee off. Anyhow, JDS didn't have an answer for Overeems movement, and was very leary of his power. The ref stopped it way to early though, but it is what it is. Good win for Overeem. I don't think anyone was expecting that. He danced around and kept away, and made sure he landed the one or two significant strikes of the rounds. lol

It's not the drastically shrunken Overeem's fault, he came in clean, and starched Dos Santos, and his over rated boxing.

I disagree. Dos Santos has always faired better with guys who let him control distance. Overeem didn't let him control the distance. Any version of Dos Santos would of had a problem with that, and this was a vastly shrunken version of Overeem.

This (whenever it would have happened) was always a 50/50 fight.

Junior has great hands and power (by MMA standards) but not much else.

Alistair is the arguably the most well round HW next to Werdum, but has a glass chin.

I definitely agree his boxing was always overrated, but it got the job done in MMA.

He did a good job at controlling the pace at times honestly, but he wasn't letting his hands go. Overeem respected his power early and when he finally realized that nothing would be coming back that's when he went for the kill. Dos Santos had his best moment of the fight shortly before he was polished off, when he unloaded against the fence and went to the body.

Seemed to me that he couldn't pull the trigger. There were plenty of opportunities for him to let his hands go but he didn't take them. Just walking his man down without doing much of anything. I think it was midway through the second rd and they only had like 20 strikes landed between them, with Overeem only holding a slight advantage.
