Let's be real, people are jealous of Wilder because he started boxing very late and has become successful. True he's fought bums, but that's not why people hate him. There are numerous popular boxers who are fighting tomato cans. They hate him because people are uncomfortable with a guy switching from another sport to boxing and at least have a moderately successful career. People should actually sit back and enjoy the show, because a guy like Wilder being a later comer should actually make him more relatable to the average fan than a guy like say, Lomachenko who has boxed since diapers.
I am totally jealous of the guy. Who would not want to be wildly overvalued economically with job security as well?
The heavy criticism he gets has nothing to do with him coming late to the sport and switching from another sport. Michael Grant came to boxing late and came from another sport and he didn't get the criticism Wilder does, but then Grant actually fought decent opposition on the way up. Foreman is another who came to boxing late who switched from American football to boxing and then of course Joshua is the latest to come to boxing late and have success and popularity. Wilder could easily shut up the critics had he fought decent opposition. I was rooting for him after he finally stepped up and beat Liakhovich. He then went back to fighting journeymen and then had that farce against Scott. Wilder deserves all the hate he receives, it been created by his own actions.
Then what should people think about Jennings who started boxing at the age 24 and already fought better competition than Wilder?
What strikes a nerve into the boxing fan base regarding Wilder is how people in the media have tried to make his bum of the month tour something that it is not. His squashing of tomato can after tomato can is not indicative of future greatness or a preponderance of talent over his peers, but rather it is someone that is there to fool the boxing community into believing that there is a future American prospect for the heavyweight belt and a way to fill in stadium seats for a quick buck before he gets exposed.
Not at all.... Jennings is far more a prodigy as far as HW's go if you're talking about late starts. Wilder is just a fraud.
