I just watched this as I've never seen a JMM fight besides the Haye fight and haven't seen Bell fight before at all. Great fight in which they fought for the WBC, WBA and IBF Cruiserweight title, fighting to be the first undisputed champ of that division since Holyfield. I liked Mormeck's style he kind of reminds me of a less skilled Dwight Muhammad Qawi (Short, good defensively and knows how to fight inside very well) he just got too wild at times. I was amazed Bell came back to win despite for the first 5-6 rounds taking a lot of punishment, he really should have not stayed inside with Mormeck for so long. Bell was a skilled fighter you can tell he really enjoys a fight even when it may not have been in his best interest. Mormeck was very powerful at that weight its a shame his cardio failed him in this one. Very much recomended watch.

Another good fight to watch. Mormeck gassed again and whilst I wasen't scoring it, it appeared he lost to me. He resorted to trying to fight on his toes, running the rounds out I believe. O'Neil was much more consistant. Big props to him for going to France to fight the contender but it appeared to cost him, in my opinion anyway.

Thanks again . I'm almost certain that 1 of them i didn't have b4 , but maybe im wrong .
People treat CW as a redundant division . I say that it is at least as necessary as LHW & SMW .

Mormeck was a pretty handy fighter, back then. Now, just an adequate, solid, undersized pro, who got himself ABCified highly enough, by the hair of his arse. Admirably groomed, at any rate. :yep

Mormeck vs Bell 1 is closet classic. Rarely mentioned but has all the elements of a great fight. Mormeck had that "look" (muscles, mean mugging etc) and was highly touted by Showtime and Ring magazine at the time.

Mormeck bulldozes Bell inside for the first few rounds. Cracking combinations off his head it was rocking back wildly, even his gumshield goes flying out to the stands. It was a bad beating but Bell was so relaxed and rallies back. Bell had a volume punching style, starting each combo by just touching him with the jab. Always busy and overwhelming Mormeck with consistent punching pressure.

I think a focused O'Neil Bell was a high quality fighter at cruiserweight. His pose, ability to withstand punishment, stamina as well as putting punches together were solid skills. I do believe his was somewhat unstable though and you never knew what mind-frame he entered into a fight.

I watched Bell knock out Sebastian Rothman on the Mangler Youtube channel and I'm surprised thats never shown on any KO highlight vids or mentioned on KO threads. Rothman fell like Tate when Weaver nailed him, he was down and he was hurt

Mormeck vs Bell 1 was a classic and then Mormeck got revenge. Does anyone think he should be ranked higher than Haye given he did the actual unifying of the belts and had more title fights at the weight?

I thought the rematch was a disappointment. It was interesting early then the open scores got read in the 8th and Mormeck knowing he had it stayed away and made it boring. Mormeck never would have known just how ahead he was and probably would have continued to trade like in fight 1 where he also had a lead.

That fight made me hate open scoring
