Anyody know whats happening with him. Has he retired? I like this guy, I still think he could pick up a belt in the cruisers.
dont know what happened to him,and i agree he is still a top fighter and could easily retain a title.
I've just read on wiki that he is coming back in March and fighting Guillermo Jones for the WBA strap. Anyone shed any light on this.
yeah i heard about this too, i'm looking forward to it if its true, he's a very underrated fighter and very exciting to watch to, hopefully he aint loss anything from his ring rust
After a year off in 2008, Mormeck is to return to the ring in 2009, he will face the current WBA Cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones the fight is scheduled to take place in March.
Mormeck brings back a funny memory. Saw him fight in Vegas against a very tough Russian on the undercard, I think, of the Jones-Ruiz heavyweight title fight. His whole team -- with the eye of the tiger -- was dressed in Special Forces jungle camou on their ring walk to the beats of Victoria Secret runway music.
JMM - Jones would be a good fight. All the champions cept Jones are busy atm.... BTW This fight aint even happening. Guys, don't take wikipedia as a ****ing source.atsch
something about him doesn't seem right. He seems like he has no drive and seems to be so nonchalant in the ring
You're talking about his match with Alexander Gurov from the Ukraine. You were one of what, five people in the crowd? They showed this for free before the PPV. Gurov threw like 110+ punches over the first four rounds to keep Mormeck off him, but eventually JMM closed the gap and forced his way for the brutal tko around the 8th round. Gurov was a fun fighter to watch. Tall and rangy southpaw with a very hard straight left hand and no chin. He almost always was either knocked out (often early like against Aoussi, Haye, etc.) or doing the knocking out like against tough Frenchman Norbert Ekassi. He was scheduled to fight James Toney in an IBF eliminator at one point but had passport problems. Mormeck was too strong for him. He had endurance issues for a while. Remember that first fight with Bell. Also, he's been through some wars and taken punishment over the last three or four years. Both fights with Bell and the loss to Haye were vicious fights. My sense is now that Guillermo Jones will outwork him.
Why is that, the CIA been tampering with the crusierweight schedules again? For the record it has been on his website for the last month, and was featured in Le Monde magazine a few weeks back.
Hmm, sorry, but I don't think you should take French magazines/newspapers as a credible source. Most of these magazines they make about boxing aren't really true. But who knows, maybe im wrong. Would be a great fight none the less. Id sure as hell would love to see it.
