Its just arrived today, can't wait to start seeing it. I hope its better than Azumah Nelson, as great as he was there are fights where he refuses to throw punches and boxes when its not needed at all. I've only seen a little of Fenech and need to brush up on knowledge of this multi-division champion do I thought this would be a good buy. Only missing 4 of his pre title fights too, which is nice. For people who know more about him, and especially those who where around when he was fighting, what was he like? I'm interested in evreything but especially resume, as I know little of the smaller guys and want to know what the typical calibre of opponent he fought against. Thanks a lot :good
I have a set of his too, I got from some Australian guy. Very good. I will say though, I think Zarate was starting to get to him w/ body shots and when the cut happened and he (Fenech) failed to continue, I think it was a lot of self-preservation. Good set though. Ultra-agressive little fighter from the land where they REALLY appreciate both a good beer or 20 and ultra-agressive fighters.
For sure. Whilst not Australlian born Sakio Bika and Vic Darchinyan are ultra aggressive too. Must be something in the water
Fenech was an animal, in and out of the ring. Very entertaining fighter never gave an opponent a second to breathe. Was world champ in his 7th bout (record till recently I think) just a natural born killer. He can be a real ****wit if he don't like you. Was Danny Green and Vic Darchinian's first pro trainer and he tried to milk them for all the cash he could.
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=35832&cat=boxer 3 fights in- WBC champion. Confident matchmaking lol
He was an experienced Muay Thai champion with an iron chin and a massive punch and a South East Asian games Gold medal to his name. They had a reason to be confident.
Speaking of Muangsurin, yesterday we talked about great right hooks. Have you ever seen a shorter more destructive rt. hook then the beauty that destroyed a good fighter in Rudy Barro (who Monroe Brooks said was a harder puncher than Duran or anyone he fought. Watched it at home yesteerday and it was a beauty. Also watched the Suzuki bodyshot fight and ko by Muang. Muangsurin is dead now, but what a career.)
Yep, sweet right hand and Barro was on a good run at that point, making the transition from tough journeyman to live contender. Was backing Saensak up as well :yep Muangsurin of course, stopped Brooks. Sadly there's no footage of it...
This is about the 8th thread in a week where has come up...i have to start watching that little ****er. Flea might make me a fan of the thai fighters yet..
Fenech cut a real swath through the lighter weights in the 80's, it seemed he was garnering a new belt with every issue of World Boxing I'd buy, month in and month out. Years later, when I saw the little "box score" fight summation in the magazine, "Calvin Grove KO 7 Jeff Fenech" I remember thinking it a shame their editors got the names reversed. :-( That result still surprises me, as Fenech had been so ungodly tough and Grove supposedly had absolutely no power. Guess he had fallen quite a ways by then.
