This is one of the most horrible beatings i've ever seen in the ring, not necessarily for the damage inflicted - Fenech was only a good puncher - but just for the horrible mauling inflicted upon the opponents.

Callejas was good, unbeaten since his ring debut, ranked, with a brutal left-hook. Fenech just flew at him and literally never gave him a moment's rest. The beating he hands out on the ropes is horrible. When he drops Callejas in the third, I think it was just a mercy-knee rather than a legitimate knockdown but those are sometimes the worst. Harder, faster, with one of the great ring engines, Fenech was also excellent defensively in this fight. He was equal to the Callejas hook when it landed, but he dumped it over and over again with head movement and a lovely little wide-legged dip as he came in.

Callejsas had heart, he tried everything, including a head-butt in the second. Fenech just shifted further inside and landed a harder one in return. What do you do?

Great performance. I watched his horrible beating of super-tough Australian Tony "Mad Dog" Miller today too but the Callejas performance was even better.

Fenech also ran roughshod over Samart Payakaroon who's one of the greatest fighters of all time. Especially below feather, Fenech was a rough beast because of his size and work rate.

Also in sure I've mentioned this before but I would love to have Australian announcers flow me around. Would make life much better.

Yeah, I'd definitely say the Callejas fight was Fenech's best performance.

Callejas was a very good fighter, a fine world titlist at 122 lbs, and Fenech just walked through him. It's a pity Fenech was never on US television. I knew about him form reading Ring and KO but the average American sports fan or casual bocing fan never learned about him.

Payakaroon was a good fighter, having beaten a faded Lupe Pintor for the WBC 122 lb title. But to say he was "one of the greatest fighters of all time" is a bit hyperbolic.

Interestingly, Payakaroon's rabid fans ridiculed and mocked him among his return home. Even the President wanted nothing more to do with him. Such is the folley of being a hero in a 3rd world country, I guess. They hold up their heroes as if they are Supermen.

I remember thinking it was very harsh that he was being treated that way. I knew Fenech was the real deal and it was not a disgrace to lose to him.

Payakaroon is fairly inarguable one of the greatest fighters of all time. He was only a very good boxer though.

    Whatever

    Kickboxing?
    Slugger?

    Sematics

When someone says 'fighter" on here I assume they mean "Boxer." And all around, not just one aspect of boxing.

Maybe it's just the way we define it in the US. In the US, "fighter" means all-around Boxer.

Was Samart really treated this way? Where did you that story up from?

Yeah, I remember reading about it at the time.

Apparently a lot of people lost money betting on Samart and also they felt he had been leading too much of a partying/playboy lifestyle. The question is, if they thought he was partying too much, why bet on him? LOL.
