Just after everyone's honest opinions on Jeff Fenech, has he been good for aussie boxing ? what you think of him as a boxer, a trainer, a man and a promoter ? Jeff has always managed to stay in the headlines over the years, from genuine achievements in the ring to shoplifting, street fights and everything in between I think Jeff's achievements as a boxer were good, but during a time when there wasn't much other aussie talent on the world stage. As a trainer i do think he is world class, a notch below the Top 5-10 trainers, but still very good BUT he let's his ego get in the way too often and puts his own agenda above his boxers at times.
What you'll get from pretty much everyone is: "As a fighter he was awesome... bla bla" followed by "but as a trainer i think... grumble grumble" I've summed it up for everyone I think....
Yep fantastic boxer and mediocre trainer. He has had some bad press but bought most of it on himself.
I want to go gainst popular opinion a bit and say he doesn't really seem a bad trainer, he's got excellent boxing knowledge (when i've heard him commentate) and has brough along some pretty decent boxers in his stable. His problem seems to more on the 'people skills' side of things with training and corner work. Getting some fighters to listen properly (in the gym and the ring), the situation with Tyson, keeping a cooler head in the corner, from the perspective of giving fighters good conditioning and solid fundamentals/skills I think Fenech is pretty good.
As a boxer.Legend As a Trainer. Is NEVER going to get full respect unless he produces some world champs. But i tell you what,i dont mind his missus.Love a nice older LADDDDYYY
I'm 34 and grew with Jeff as a champion boxer, lots of respect 4 him in the ring.......HOWEVER i personally think he's a grub. One day i was watching Hopkins v Taylor 1 some 18 months or so ago at the Five Dock Hotel and seriously he was wearing a Fenech boxing shirt and pushing drugs with bikkies out the front every 5-10 mins...........very disappointing to say the least.
Thats pretty big accusations mate.. Why didnt a story like this make the papers. And why at such a Open place??
Im with you, love his boxing knowledge. He has more knowledge of the game and past fighters than all of us put together. Listen to him speak in the corner - he gives good advice. There are alot of ppl on here that just dont have a clue
He didn't have a sign on his head mate...... I know your only 20 but u don't honestly think that's paper material do you??
Former 3time world champion boxer shifting gear with notorious bikie gang. Would make sydney papers forsure.
Absoloutely true Teke, though I can never forget the Hussein fight (against Larios) where the poor bloke was having a panic attack and Fenech was screaming (though I can't really blame him), "What the hell are you doing Skinny!?!"
I know u wouldn't call me a lying champ, but the truth is Fenech had a dodgy bumbag on and was in and out of the Five Dock Hotel every 5-10 mins.....Point being, i'm not a nark and didn't follow him out to watch proceedings, however u can make ur own opinion about what was going on. Maybe he was selling tickets to the local fundraising organisation who knows and one can only guess.
Maybe hes a closet pigeon lover and his bum bag was full of food for them, and being the caring person he is he merely exited every five or ten minutes to make sure they weren't going hungry.
