It was supposed to be obvious. That's very rare Or at least it was until it was upped to YouTube :yep
1983 Jeff Fenech, National Australian Amateur (-51 kg) 112 lb. Flyweight Champion How many other boxers competed in the 1983 Flyweight Division versus Jeff at the National Champipnships?
:good Thanks for that mate. That Villasana was a tough hombre alright (and I might be wrong but I don't think he was ever floored in a long pro career) and really Fenechs power had completely faded due to his hands by this point so he was no chance of scoring a stoppage against him. Villasana also gave prime Nelson a couple of decent scraps as well so he was a very worthy opponent. You don't happen to have Fenech-Tony "Mad Dog" Miller as well do you? I watched this one at the time and recall Jeff giving the naturally larger and extremely hard Miller a complete shellacking for the Australian Featherweight title. Miller had previously given Lester Ellis heaps and arguably beat him yet Jeff whipped him with ease. That's why I always get a laugh when people say that Ellis would've beaten Fenech when Jeff was clearly in another class of fighter.
For some reason I was under the impression Fenech beat Zaragoza at the end of his career, before Morales. Many my understanding of time is awful. Beating Zaragoza just before he won the title was one helluva win, Zaragoza was a good champion.
I recall one of the Nelson fights being a weird Nelson performance where he randomly started outjabbing Villasona.
In the second fight he completely clowned Villasana and beckoned him forward. Slipped his shots well. Maybe that's what you're thinking of, I thought he was very impressive there.
Im watching the McCrory fight, he looks like a mini-me Hearns. Anyway nice fight, lots of work from both men.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AhZaAXfO0I[/ame] This is the fight I'm up to now. Im guessing Callejas touched Jeff's girl, burnt his house down or did something to annoy him. To label Fenech a streetfighter woulden't be doing him justice. Victor is good too. Like watching two Antonio Margarito's go at it full tilt.
This fight personifies Jeff. Very effective aggression. The Puerto Rican was competiive for 3 then Jeff beat it out of him. Such a brutal, bruising fight. I can't imagine how Callejas felt for weeks after. And this was a former world champion. I can see why some people would fancy Fenench over Wilfredo Gomez. He was a animal
