Could the 'Hitman' get to Dariusz's body like he did Andries? Very interesting fight. Even in Germany.......
nope. That accuracy of Dariusz would be way too much and he'd get busted up. That stiff jab wouldn't miss. Neither would the follow ups and his connect % might be 70% against the defense of Harding. He'd hang tough but his punches aren't getting Michalczewski off his feet and Harding is the guy backing up here. Good brawl to watch but just too big of a toll getting hit clean.
I think DM had more depth in skill and was a better athlete. He certainly accomplished more than Harding did. Jeff was tough but he's out of his league here.
Dariusz' jab is made for foes like Harding. It was not a flicking jab or a rangefinder but a power jab. I think he would control most of the rounds with it and inflict some serious facial damage.
Can't disagree with too much here except Harding was always in awesome shape. I wonder when he was able to get to Tiger's body under that high guard he had. Going into deep water, he might start breaking him down. He had Andries out on his feet in the rematch from bodyshots until he walked into a bomb. Can't dispute the UD 12 for Michalczewski but would love to see the later rounds. Jeff walked through Nestor and Michalczewski didn't.
At first blush you almost rush to say Michalczewski but upon looking it's probably the length that does that. The Hill win was a fine one and the Rocky rematch was probably his most impressive. Was Montell shot when they fought? Andries, Giovannini, Tiozzo and McCallum were Harding's best. The one common opponent, Giovannini was handled better by Harding but I still think The Tiger would be considered to have the better resume.
I think Barber was as good as anyone Harding fought. that would have been another tough fight for Harding to win, come to think of it. Guys like Harding don't get the wins and don't hold up long once they start fighting a diet of top 10 opponents.
Michalczewski fought 7 world champions and Harding 4. In his 27 world title fights, only 8 of these were against World Champions (had been or would become), as he fought Rocchigiani twice. Maybe Michalczewski was able to stretch his WT reign for so long was due to the second teir fighters he was feasting on(?).
Nicky Piper had Barber out on his feet. Tough fight for Harding - yes but winnable. I say he wins actually.
I think DM takes it by a long shot to be honest. He beat an aged yet still reigning Virgil Hill and several other respectable contenders. Dennis Andries was quite possibly the best fighter Harding beat and that guy was older than Jesus.
You know this would be a great match up either way.The thing is Harding had a good jab as well-not in DMs league but a pretty good jab.Add to the fact that Harding went to the body pretty good and his handspeed was quicker then people think I would pick Harding to stop DM in the late rounds or DM to jump out to an early lead and then survive the latter rounds-either way very good match up.
Harding would put up a tough fight, but in the end he gets beaten up and stopped. DM was just the far more talented, and skilled of the two, and his jab would bust Harding up badly. Of course, Harding could crack, and DM was no defensive genius, so Jeff would have his moments. But I don't think it'd be enough. DM via late stoppage.
