Why the 2 year lay-off before he fought Mccallum? I mean it affected his performance a great deal and I think that if Harding would have been active for those 2 years he possibly could have beaten a Mccallum.I just rewatched there bout and Harding didn't set the blistering pace that he was known for.I think some of that was Mccallum but alot also was being inactive for 2 years and then stepping into the ring with a world class boxer such as Mccallum. And in this bout Harding didn't nearly go to the body as much as he did in past bouts. And why the sudden retirement after Mccallum? There was plenty of lightheavyweights Harding could have beaten.
Mate the hitman battled many demons throughout his career. He still to this day battles with the bottle and can be found around south sydney pissed as a fart. A few years ago his problems became that bad that he sold his belts to the local hock shop.
Sorry to hear that. You know while never to be confused as a defensive genius Harding threw some nice short, compact combinations on the inside. And his jab was underrated as well.
Its well docmented he was invited to the Hall Of Fame dinner (Cant remember if to inducted) but he is of "no fixed address" & couldnt stay sober long enough.
