If he somehow pulls off the upset, Corcoran is going to EXACTLY mirror the career trajectory of Chris Algieri: comes from obscurity to bag one decent victory (Provodnikov/Horn), propelling him into a guaranteed matchup with the opponent's would-be rival for whom nothing so far has prepared him (Pacquiao/Crawford), and who then doles out a beating from which he never recovers.
Yep, setting my alarm for 6am, nothing interesting enough on the undercard to sacrifice any more sleep for. I'll probably fire up the RBR thread around midnight just before going to sleep, as the local coverage will begin within an hour of that if any of the Aussies (or people with the ultra rare access to Aussie television feeds) want to pipe in with undercard coverage while I'm snoozing.
Gonna be lots of pundit gab/highlight packages/hype pieces/overall downtime on this show, actually, crunching the numbers. The entire undercard as listed on BoxRec is only a potential 50 rounds, so if everything goes the distance that is (50 x 4 minutes for the rounds and minute breaks) a bit less than a net 3½ hours of actual boxing. Starting at 5:10pm AEDT, that means they'd be wrapped up by 9pm if they kept it moving briskly, including ring walks to minimal fanfare. Main event isn't until 10:30pm AEDT. If there are lots of early kayos that audience is going to be so bored...
Correct. At least, ESPN coverage will begin at 6:30am, meaning ring walks probably over and done with by twenty of seven. That leaves just enough time in the allotted slot for a championship match (12×4", 48min) with a couple of minutes to read scorecards, maybe a quick interview with the victor, and sign off by 7:35ish - and even that is running a tad late. ESPN don't really care about boxing that much to let it preempt anything else, this sport is really the redheaded stepchild as far as they're concerned.
Sorry for being dense, but what time roughly will the undercard and the main event start at British time? If you're in the UK, IntentionalButt, I'm looking at 6am for the main card?
Alex Leapai and Lenny Zappa both on the card in gimmes, both clinging desperately to fading (and never all that bright to begin with) relevance.
I figure he will have Corcoran out by the 9th or so. That is best case scenario here for him, one-upping Liam Williams' result and giving himself confidence and momentum heading into the lion's den versus Crawford.
I'm on the eastern seaboard of the US. Five hours behind GMT. The deep undercard begins at 1:10am my time, or just past 6 in the morning for Brits. The actual main event coverage on ESPN doesn't begin until over 5 hours later: 6:30 for me, half noon for you.
Would hardly call Horn a bum. This isn't Brian Magee vs. Jaime Barboza, not even close. Horn >>>> Magee and Corcoran >> Barboza.
FFS. I start nights tomorrow. Will be up till 6am tonight, and asleep until 4pm... Thanks for the reply.
