anyone have an opinion on this fight? Poor Jeff has taken a beating in the years following his loss to Calzaghe. Who is this Sullivan dude? Lacy pulled out a win in late December. Does he have one more in him? Lacy a +1000 underdog for the fight.

Barrera is another big punching promising Cuban prospect, I should imagine Lacy will likely either get stopped or take another beating.

    He's +1000 for a reason.

The guy he beat in December has lost 2/3 of his bouts.

The last time Lacy fought at Barrera's level he was pounded out in 2.

    Lacy v Barrera wtf

Its hard not to feel sorry for Jeff. What an earth shattering experience he went through directly in the public spotlight

Eh. :conf No more so than say, Michael Grant. Or Panchito Bojado.

Hype bubbles get burst in boxing.

Lacy's name only became such a lightning rod for abuse because Calzaghe fans repeatedly kept dredging it up (even well after it ceased to be Calzaghe's best win, instead of switching focus to prop him up by pointing out the victory he edged over a prime Kessler, which is by far the better W...)

Lacy's record post getting Lacy'd by Calzaghe and suffering that serious injury to his shoulder.

WMD 10 Vitaly Tsypko in a fight that could easiy have been scored against him.

WUD 10 Peter Manfredo in a fight that could have been scored against him too (I haven't seen it since it was broadcast but I remember thinking it was mighty close at the time).

WMD 10 Epifanio Mendoza - another razor-close one apparently.

LUD 12 via schooling to Jermain Taylor.

WMD 10 Otis Griffin - Griffin recently said this was a really bad robbery, that he won 8 of the 10 rounds.

    LRTD 10 to Roid Jones

LUD 12 to the 23-19-7 Dhafir Smith.

WTKO3 to the 20-16-2 Martin Verdin.

    LTKO2 Umberto Savigne.

WUD 8 over the 9-18 Timothy Hall Jr.

I feel very sorry for him. That loss, the fall from grace and the subsequent abuse he's been subjected to since still clearly affects him. Saw this recent interview with him earlier on today.

No thread should be titled, "Jeff Lacy getting KTFO tonight"

    :good

Just not that good. And his résumé before the Calzaghe bubble-bursting was hardly that of a world beater. Just a one trick pony with a good left hook and who "looked the part" but otherwise had no reason to be crowned anything more than a dime a dozen belt holder.

Strange how many respected boxing people got behind Lacy. Winky, for instance, was personal buddies with him but even so, to put his own neck on the line and risk his credibility (and remember, this is around when he was looking to get Winky Promotions off the ground and has a vested interest appearing to KSAB) by proclaiming Lacy a p4p star in the making... :-( They just seem to be opposite ends of the spectrum as fighters. Winky super technical and intelligent, and Lacy just a limited-****nal slugger. :conf

Earlier today in another thread someone mentioned how the Edison Miranda hype train included Hopkins prematurely appointing Miranda as successor to his MW throne. Kind of similar. Hopkins like Winky is a thinking man's boxer, while guys like Miranda and Lacy were anything but...just Wysiwyg KO artists who, power aside, we're just totally basic ham 'n' eggs.

Pre Calzaghe Lacy might not have been as good as the hype suggested but the post-Calzaghe/shoulder injury one was clearly a mere shadow of his former self and he's a mere ghost of that shadow today.

Winky and Lacy used to spar regularly.

Yeah but that is sparring. In a real pro contest, Winky moves up to 168lbs anytime he pleases (including when Lacy was at his undefeated peak) and even with the size disparity boxes his face off. In fact, I'll go a step further and say it would be a total uncompetitive mismatch, and that Lacy would come no closer to winning a round than he did with Calzaghe.

Lacy's only chance is to knock Winky out and that isn't happening, even if he lands flush. And honestly it may well be that not even one flush left hook gets past that high guard. Lacy outpointing Wright? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

It would be death by steady jab, instead of the "death by Nightcrawler-esque teleportation and drizzle-flurries" he met with Joe.

As to your point about him being worse afterwards, yes, of course - Joe ruined him. But it wasn't as precipitous a fall as some make out. It wasn't the ruination of an elite. It was the ruination of a B+ titlist.
