Yes. Hype bubbles get burst in boxing, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve sympathy or empathy. Before Calzaghe, he was getting crazy hype and then he gets deserted afterwards. One day everyone wants to know him and be seen with him.....the next....? Those that said he was the greatest thing since sliced bread are the same ones that now deride him and call him a bum. It's not just unique to boxing though, which makes the situation all the sadder. It's not his fault that most DKSAB and hyped him without spotting holes in his game. He was and is one of our modern day gladiators. These men deserve respect, even if they are not on the top tier. :blackeye
I never brought into his hype and during all that hype I remeber how he looked like a co plate novice when he fought Omar Sheika
Jeff really shouldn't fight again. That was just sad to watch, everytime he got hit he was on deer legs. :-(
Jeff Lacy had a powerful left-hook and plenty of heart, but simply lacked some essential skills, especially the ability to slip and block punches. As a result, Lacy has been taking some tremendous beatings, win or lose, beginning with his bout with Joe Calzaghe. As a result, Lacy should have retired for good a long time ago. - Chuck Johnston
