He was an average ABC title holder before he met Calzaghe, and would be one now if he hadn't perhaps run into Taylor. The injury has removed how effective his punch is, but the truth is he was never particularly very good to begin with, I wouldn't say he was shot.

Regardless of how average a talent Jeff Lacy is. His problem is that he lacks a lot of basic boxing skill and doesn't use them well at all, and got his victories simply by being very strong and intimidating. But people forget that he has had surgery on his shoulder, and apparently that injury has affected him severely. All this talk about him being "mentally affected" by the Calzaghe loss is overblown because while that loss is huge, it wouldn't have been as huge if he had strung together a few knockouts after the loss. With his injury issues, he has been limited because the guy really was a poor boxer to begin with, but it has nothing to do with being completely destroyed or shot. It's his injuries that are affecting him, not his loss to Calzaghe. You get over that emotional bull**** when you have to live and eat on your winnings (he's not wealthy for those of you that think he is), and Lacy is very toughminded. I remember how assertive and tough he was after the Calzaghe fight, like he had gotten a reality check but still wasn't going to be categorized as not putting up a fight. It's the injury, not his spirit is his problem.

'Shot' describes someone good who turned bad overnight.

Jeff was never anygood in the first place.

I prefer 'proven to be utterly shite now' than shot.

I think it explains it a bit better.

    :D

Damn shame tho'. A helluva decent, classy guy who, at one point, really was heading for the stars it seemed........even if most claim that he was never any good.

Whatever he does, I wish him all the very best for the future.
