The story behind this fight. No excuse Joe fought one hell of a fight this night!!! Truth be told, I’ve ONLY watched this fight a total of 2 to 3 rounds Again I’m not discrediting Joe’s performance by saying this, but in this fight, I clearly wasn’t ready for this level of competition at this time of my career I WAS THE FIGHTER IN THE SUPER MIDDLE DEVISION! My will to not give up, my BEAST DIDNT! I was beat, battered, an bruised for 12 rounds! My will to never call this fight round after round. I remember speaking to God, “saying God please turn me on, because I can’t feel my punches connecting to his body at all! It was the craziest feeling I’ve ever had to deal with, in all my years of fighting!!!!!!!!! Between the rounds, I kept asking God to turn me on, allow me to feel my punches connect to ANY part of his bodyyyy!!!!!$ pleaseeeee! Round after round I was waiting for that feeling to Knik with me never did the full12 rounds that’s why I went the whole fight that way without giving up

When that last bell wrong, that look on my face, I said danggggggggg nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy couldn’t I feel anything in this fight even his punches didn’t phase me! I don’t get it!!!!!! God why didn’t u turn me on in this fight? I just did not get it! For about a good year, I loss who I was, real talk. I stayed in my house for months, an don’t remember eating at all!!!!! I felt so alone n my home, just me. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I couldn’t figure out what had happened to me. It was like my fire I’ve always had, never lit!!!!!!

    "Epic" implies something less one-sided...

Jeff gets a lot of unfair stick because of this fight. It was the catastrophic shoulder injury in his next fight that undid his career.

He took a LOT of head trauma against Calzaghe and then in his fight after the injury against Roy Jones, Epifanio Mendoza, Jermain Taylor, and Peter Manfredo. I just saw in Wikipedia he was fighting as recently as 2015 against Sullivan Barrera. Yikes! I hope he's not punchy and he has enough money saved away, but this is boxing, so I'm not too optimistic about that.

He shamefully dissociates, distances and detaches himself from the defeat; God didn't 'turn him on'. The ba$****! No he doesn't in general...you have to fight the opponent and he has to fight you back sans supernatural deities. That's the fairest way. If your God *did* desert you...I'm sure Joe had a big say in his departure.

The over riding feeling towards Jeff in that fight now seems to be that of sympathy. He met with Joe and was incredibly humble

He should have retired a long time ago, but he still believes he has it. To have that level of self belief is admirable, but in this case it's downright dangerous

He couldn't feel his punches landing coz he was being made to miss by a much better fighter. He's making it sound mystical....

I think Gary Shaw deserves criticism for his handling of Lacy. Although wins over Syd Vanderpool and Robin Reid are good accomplishments, Lacy's difficulties against an unusually tactical Omar Sheika would have convinced a smart promoter that more time was needed to develop.

Unfortunately if Jeff comes back, plenty of managers will be eager to use him as cannon fodder for the next up and coming prospect. Its sad. Several of Lacy's former foes hung around way too long.

Sheika fought on despite a series of devastating hand injuries. Before Peter Manfredo fought Daniel Eduard, Manfredo Sr. publicly said he was concerned for his son re brain trauma, yet Manfredo had half a dozen more fights. Everyone is familiar with Jones Jr.'s sad saga, and with Jermain Taylor's bizaare turn for the worst. But the weirdest one of all might be Rubin 'Hollywood' Williams. Williams fought well against Lacy before being stopped in the 7th. But he now owns a 29-29 record with 20 kayo losses, as well as a baffling foray into mixed martial arts, where he was submitted by Kazushi Sakuraba in his only fight. He also apparently claims (falsely) that he was a world champion.

Exactly, good way of putting it; out of his control..there was something supernatural going on.

If Calzaghe would have been around 10 years later he would have done the same to Ward who would have ended up on YouTube with Charles Martin having a pokey bum wank
