Jeff Lacy. The myth. And why Calzaghe is WAY short of being a legend.

Why does everyone point to Calzaghe's victory over one-trick pony Lacy as a 'career defining fight?'
Yes, he took 'Left Hook' to school, but so what?
Lacy was never the monster the promoters would have you believe, but an above average slugger with no plan B when things started to not go his way.
He did a number on a shopworn Robin Reid, but little more before or after.
Calzaghe, trading on his unarguably terrific conditioning, was a match for all his opponents, who were, by and large a mixture of average pugs in their prime, or excellent boxers past their sell by dates.
In stark contrast to Oscar de la Hoya, I believe the history books will not be so kind on 'No Ordinary' Joe!

Lacy was also an undefeated champion at that time and was considered the favourite by many. Calzaghe effectively ended his career that night.
Joe is an ATG no matter how you look at it.

Its easy to pick holes in a performance, but prior to the fight even some very knowlegable and respected boxing writers predicted Calzaghe would lose and probably be brutally KO'd in the process.

Ignore my avatar im not a fan.

judging by the first dozen or so votes in the poll, opinions are fairly divided.

So what makes your judgement so worthwhile, jackass?:huh

Revisionist history is way to easy. Joe has been underrated all his life. He was a great fighter.

Some so called fight afficionados had Barrera down to wipe the floor with Khan.

What the **** makes an expert?

Apparently 'McGrain', 'Radab' and a few others are the only posters who know anything about boxing on here.

Might as well not bother having your own opinions if you don't agree with these muppets!

Joe is NOT an ATG no matter how you look at it.

    Archie Moore is an ATG

    Bob Foster is an ATG

    Micheal Spinks is an ATG

Sloppy Joe is NOT on their level...no matter how you look at it.

I have no idea at all why u guys rate Robin Reid so high.....HE HAS ****EN NO ONE ON HYIS RESUME......

Jeff Lacy has Pemberton, Vanderpool and Sheika on his resume.....no where close to superb....but you can't say he sucks he's just average.
