Lacy better train hard for this because not for nothing even though Diaz will probably suck in the boxing ring Jeff is borderline "Completely shot" and it could be another embarrassment to boxing ala Toney...

    How, though?

At this stage, Lacy doesn't let his hands go. Diaz does.

At this stage, Lacy doesn't have any inclination to work on the inside. Diaz does.

At this stage, Lacy doesn't move his head. Diaz does.

Whether it's in a different sport or not, Diaz is doing all the things that a boxer should be doing...and that Lacy doesn't do (and hasn't for years).

Their relative pro boxing experience doesn't change any of the above. You seem to be trying to convince yourself that Lacy will win because you want to think that the once world ranked 30-fight veteran should always be favored over the "rank amateur". In most cases, you'd be right - but every rule has its exceptions.

The fact is, Lacy is going to take a beating from a guy in only his sophomore effort...and it will be the most embarrassing moment in a career that's already had plenty of them.

He really has been really, really terrible. It's funny the way the two sports are set up, James Toney has an MMA fight against......Randy Courture and Nick Diaz can have a fight against a totally shot and destroyed Jeff Lacy.

Lacy may be shot but even the Lacy that lost a lopsided decision to Dhafir Smith would have been competent enough to beat Nick Diaz. Plus, Lacy does have a good chin so if this fight is scheduled for 10 rounds, Im sure his stamina alone will give him the edge in this fight and knowing how to pace himself. Im sure Diaz will be decent for a couple rounds, but Lacy will drown him past 3 or 4 rounds imo.

I don't think anything will ever be as bad as that was. James Toney had no business in a cage with Couture, and everyone knew it. Couture is an MMA ATG and Toney is a way past his prime overweight super middleweight.

This fight is interesting though. I've always wondered what would happen if you got an MMA guy in a real boxing match. What does he do when he gets cracked? It wouldn't suprise me one bit if an MMA guy instinctively throws a knee or tackles a boxer after getting cracked.

But Lacy might be too far gone. Wasn't he stopped by RJJ 2 fights ago? In his last fight he lost to some guy with a record of 23-19-7. I'd rather see someone like Allen Green or Sakio Bika or Edison Miranda take on Diaz. Even someone like Peter Manfredo would be good. I'd bet that Diaz would be destroyed in about 4 rounds.

Diaz has an inside game? I must have missed that - when on the inside in MMA he always goes for tactics that are illegal in boxing; elbows, knees, takedowns and dirty boxing. I've also missed the head movement - pretty much everyone he's stood with has tagged him repeatedly.

I can't pretend I've seen Lacy recently so perhaps he is now so washed up that Diaz can beat him. But the fact is that Diaz has been dropped repeatedly when he's chosen to stand - sure he was able to come back and win those rounds but in boxing that'd have been an instant 10-8 against him. His striking looked much improved against Daley not because of his boxing but because of his elbows and knees.

And there is so much more for him to learn. How to cut the ring off, how to prepare himself for 10 3minute rounds, how to catch the eye of the judges and how to ignore the MMA instincts that will lead him to fouls.

But to be honest I refuse to treat the prospect of him boxing with anything other than complete contempt until Georges St. Pierre's next fight is announced. This is clearly strong arm tactics to get the fight with the welterweight champion. Will probably work as well.

Bottom line is this is a lose lose fight for Diaz. He loses then it's expected because Jeff has fought on a world class level. He wins then he beat a shot Lacey. He must see it as a stepping stone to bigger things or a way to put a few extra $$$ in the bank like James Toney

It's no stretch of the imagination to say that if Diaz faces a top 5 ranked boxer at his weight like he's ranked in MMA he gets schooled. Diaz is the most overrated stand up fighter in MMA. And Im a hardcore MMA fan

(Gracie confirmed the bout is set unless UFC president Dana White offers Diaz a fight with UFC welterweight king Georges St. Pierre.

“Yes, [the fight is on], unless Dana offers GSP as an alternate sacrifice,” Gracie said.)

No way on earth Diaz vs Lacy happens.

    Lacy is nobody in boxing.

Lacy could only dream of being the fighter that Diaz is.

White will easily pay Diaz what he wants and give him the title shot he wants.

It sounds like Diaz and his camp are totally willing to dump the Lacy bout if a GSP fight is made instead, causing me to think this is just a ploy on their part to get the fight with GSP.

who is going to put the money for this fight, boxing people are not going to buy this fight if it is on PPV and there zero chance Showtime or HBO, neven ESPN OR fox sports net putting a cent up for this.
