Jeff Lacy is only 30 years old, only 24 fights, and has only one loss. I don't understand why some people want him to retire. That doesn't make any sense at all. Yeah, he didn't look good in his last fight, but let's see how he looks in his next couple of fights. Lacy should of course keep on fighting. It would be ridiculous if he would give up his boxing career because he looked like **** in his first fight after being away from boxing almost a year and after that bad injury.
Please explain. I have never said Lacy was a crap fighter. He was a very hyped and talented fighter here in the US with an exciting style. I have never said he was overrated, but it is interesting to see what he has done since he was thrashed by JC. I have never discredited JC's win over him, in fact I thought this would lead to bigger and better fights immediately after (I guess Bika and Manfredo are considered top notch by JC fans).
If Eubank did not struggle to make weight for the fight, then why did he jump 2 weight classes from SMW (168) to Cruiserweight (190) in his very next fight? I agree that Eubank was not shot, but he was also nowhere near his prime when he fought JC. He already had 47 tough pro fights when he fought JC at age 31. Why do few fans of JC not acknowledge this. When asked about JC's resume, his fans always point to the Eubank win as something greater than it was. It was a good win, but does not qualify him for sainthood. Eubank was at the very end of his career as evidenced by his retirement 2 fights later. I do agree, many people do try and warp facts to suit their prejudices.
I think we should give Lacy a brake he took a big beating from JC then the shoulder. To be fair looked crap last time out but he was out for a long time. I dont think he should leave it long before fighting again but if he is no better next time out he should call it a day
I don't think Lacy will ever be what he once was. Shame. In many ways he was unlucky with that shoulder injury. I'll always respect him A LOT for his heart and guts in the Calzaghe fight! What a fighter!:happy
You did not read my posts correctly. I said I, and many other American fans had not heard much about JC before his fight with Lacy. I had seen 3 or 4 of Lacy's fights prior to the JC fight (or should I say thrashing). Reread my posts, as a different poster made the remark about no-one knowing who Lacy was. Lacy was hyped heavily by Showtime, so unless you don't get cable here, you knew who Lacy was.
Yep and that was the main reason why Lacy didn't want that Tarver fight. I read an interview with Lacy a few weeks ago were he was honest and said he needs a couple of more fights in order to get back to that high level again, and then take on the best fighters out there. He felt this was the smartest thing to do right now and was looking forward to step into the ring again.
I give JC credit for that victory, he stepped up against a former world champ as a young fighter and beat him. I do keep that victory in perspective though. If Dawson were to fight Roy Jones and beat him, I would keep that victory in perspective as well.
