Jeff Mayweather: Cotto is ruined

Pac is just too good for Cotto man. Vintage or not vintage. Cotto had never fought anyone near as good as Pac, and when he did he got ktfo.

You know what fight I watched that made me know for sure that Pac would beat Cotto? The Judah fight. Not Margo, not Clottey, not Jennings.

I watched Pac vs JMM, and then I watched Cotto vs Judah, and I was 99% sure that Pac would whoop Cotto's ass.

Here's some vintage Miguel Cotto body/head combo. That's not enough to beat Pac, who's offense has always been just so much more desvastating.

Cotto was never special. With big size advantage, he was stunned by Corley, hurt by Judah and went life and death with Torres.
Props for his win against Shane.

 

Those shots were telegraphed arm punches with no real power behind them not to mention Pac knew they were coming. Not saying Pac isn't tough as nails and can't take a good shot we all know he can but Cotto just isn't the body puncher he used to be. IMO he hasn't been since before the Mosley fight. If you remember in that fight Shane strategically clinched Cotto and guarded against his body attack. One of Cotto's biggest problems and I've said this about him for the longest is that he abandons his game plan far too easily when it's not working early. He becomes frustrated when his opponent doesn't react like he wants them to and starts to fight a dumb fight or the opponents fight. IMO it's one of his biggest flaws.

 

well we'll disagree on this one. You think Cotto isn't the body puncher he used to be, but I think he fought someone who was better than anyone he'd ever met, and that he was just as good a body puncher as he was before.

Any punch can look powerful when slowed down. IMO those shots didn't have any real power behind them.

 

Unfortunately, Cotto probably is ruined. There's only so much abuse a fighter can take. I also think Jeff is right about Cotto's confidence, it's hard to feel confident if you're in retreat mode at the end of 4 of your last 6 fights.

Yes Cotto is ruined, but I don't think Pac is a cheater.

 

Disagree, in the Pac fight you could tell Cotto wasn't the same. Manny literally laid on the ropes and Cotto didn't answer. It was hard to watch

That move baffled Cotto. Not to mention that he already eased up on the body once he started fighting the harder fights at Welter.

More importantly, Cotto's jab did work consistantly in Round 1, but by early Round 2, Pac timed Cotto's jab and was able to consistently land straight lefts in anticipation of the counter jab (Pac has been doing this for a long time, don't know if even most of his fans paid attention to it) or the right hook over the top if Cotto tried to jab offensively.

 

Pac was feeling Cotto out in Round 1, after that Pacquiao was in control. We didn't see the usual aggressive Cotto in that ring that night

 

Jeff knows his ****, man. This guy sort of trained Sultan Ibragimov and got knocked out by Oscar De La Hoya when ODLH only had four pro fights. So...listen to the man.

 

GTFO. He didn't have the best chin in the world, but he pulled it off.

 

Cotto's punches were so composite/snappy from the Margarito fight and before that, both the snap and composite were hardly seen in the Jennings fight and after wards.
