I am actually pretty religious but I don't debate things on here: if your interested my view is this- you see exactly what god wants you to see, your experiences are yours alone and as such this journey is one you make on your own. Whose to say the horrible things you see and experience aren't just a test of your commitment to always try and be a good person.

    Anyway each to there own

there was also no forgivness in the teachings of the old testement. the new teaches that everyone does wrong and the real test of faith is recignising those mistakes and continuing to work on yourself.

forced faith is a major problem.

the problem with this thread is that, and it some way rightfully so, our faith is questioned but we don't have all the answers. i am sure if i was question Flea and DF's athiest beleifs i could also find contradictions and eventually the typical "i dont really care i dont think about it" comment would come along. if i has said that at any point today i would get ripped on.

Essentially 'God' has done NOTHING for me. I don't particularly care for life, and see too much tragedy going on to even believe in the balance theory.

If Aquinas' theories on God are true then he's not too caring IMO. Life is just too **** for me to think anyone designed it, not anyone sound anyway.

This is my one problem with Rob.

His passion and willingness to defend is views against whatever criticsm is admirable.

But when he is proven to be wrong, even if it is partially, he'll change his argument to suit his latest viewpoint.

Still love ya tho Rob, ya big ****ing sausage jockey :good

If people want to practice religion then fine, but they should do it in private and it should never affect my life.

It shouldn't be taught in schools, it shouldn't have any stake in politics whatsoever, it shouldn't have an opinion on the music I listen to, the films I watch, the books I read, what food I choose to eat, who I chose to sleep with, how I spend my spare time.

agree it should be practiced in private but it all faiths and cultures should be taught in schools. i dont beleive they should have school specific to one religion.

you realise the laws of every society in the world are based on religion. if you want to go to a country where that doesnt happen you will need to go to mars. religion plays a huge role in politics whether you like it or not.

Atheist beliefs? No, I don't believe in God. Any God. Any 'spiritual' stuff.

I believe that what I see.

If there was no religion at all there would be less wars and the world would be a better place, that's my view anyway.

I actually feel offended (no joke) that it was taught as 'truth' in my school. A teacher screamed and threw me out when I asked an innocent question (I was about 5)

Seems so unreasonable and surreal looking back at it.

I am not an atheist, I'm agnostic. There is reams of scientific and historical evidence that contradicts the timeline of events in the bible (not least the birth of Jesus). Like I said, I do believe there is something more than us, but just not what man's limited intelligence tries to formulate it as.

Throughout history there have been many versions of the Bible, even from the earliest civilisations. Christianity isn't even the oldest religion on Earth right now. The fact that the original texts, written in a language we can't decode now, have been interpreted with such wide variation should warn you how reliable they are as a document of God.

As soon as the science doesn't match the written word, suddenly the tales become figurative and an illustration of the moral messages. Well, which one is it? Fact or fiction?

There's plenty written about whether Christ even existed as just a bloke! He certainly wasn't the blonde-haired, blue-eyed representation so favoured in western society. He was from what's now known as Israel, can't see that pale skin doing too well in the sun.

I hear things like God has a plan or he's punishing sinners, but what about the slaughters in East Timor, a Catholic nation, what was God punishing them for? For being too near a despot in Indonesia?

It's just not something I can buy in to. But good luck finding a contradiction in my logic about why there's no God.

Nope. I get on with it and deal with what I have. The few things I really enjoy=me being interested enough to carry on. I'm here now, I'll enjoy the ride, but I do get pretty bored most of the time.

Life is pretty cool but I wouldn't be too bothered of a madman came in and shot me in the head at this moment. **** happens.

I'm not agnostic as if God himself came to me and said 'Flea, I'm real, see?' I would be convinced I was having a breakdown/acid flashback/psychotic episode/brain haemorrhage.

So by default I'm an atheist. As I say, dinosaur bones.
