You patronising git ;-) Course I do (believe in love) but that gets in the way of my main interests at the minute mate, got a few chicks I occasionally pump but a 'relationship' of which I've had many I can assure you, is not on the agenda at the mo' and hasn't been since I was about 21.

But yes, I know how it works and it's a swell thing. Again, also a mixed bag :good Another great feeling I've experienced is when you're dead excited about meeting up with a girl you're into. Butterflies. 'Love' is a physical reaction, that I cannot deny, your brain sends all sorts of **** into your system that make you feel great.

But then it can get stagnat, or end horribly, or you can get bored. As I say, not the life-affirming positive force you probably think it is.

my experience with most girls has had me seriously question both my faith, as well as the will to live, more than once. so that's a moot point. For me, ideal bliss is ****ing off down the pub with my mates, having a bit of banter at the football or boxing, then returning home to the missus (who is hopefully alseep, and wont realise how drunk I am).

I think there is a scientific explanation for acttraction, really really liking someone etc. i have felt this and like Vano been royaly ****ed over....and ashamed to say it but probably royaly ****ed over girls who felt that way about me.......but I think true love is unexplainable.

you might have to marry someone one day mate. seems like your parents have a good marrage which isnt stagnant, ended horribly or that there bored of one another, and they probably feel its been a life affirming posative force. you better hope its the same for you cos if your not depressed now, waking up to someone your bored off after 5 years.....40 years later will make you that way.

Why is love unexplainable? There are plenty of animals on this planet who have one life partner, most likely driven by the same reaction that tells our brain that we are in love.

In a species which has a gestation period of 9 months only to give birth to an offspring that is entirely dependent on a mother for at least 2 years, I think it makes perfect sense that we have feelings that keep us attached to that mother and ensure that both mother and child are protected. If it wasn't for this feeling of 'love' then I'd suggest that none of us would be sat here having this discussion, as our species would never have made it this far.

The saddest thing of all is that this thread will no doubt be moved to the Lounge. :-(

Unless Jeff changes the title to 'British Forum Super Thread of British Boxing'.

while your last comment is true. that only explains the love between a parent and a child, not the love between a man and a woman.

It's not. Read up on vasopressin and oxytocin and the respective neural receptors within the brain. There are evolutionary reasons and advantages to pair bonding and love. Just as there are for the unconditional love that most functioning parents feel for their children.

Once initial infatuation dies down, the length of the receptors for these key chemicals is likely to mean you are inclined to long term bonding or not and then other factors such as mututal respect and shared interests will determine whether it is a lasting "love".

It sure as hell is not anything to do with a God or Gods, irrespective of whether such deities exist or not. We can already make animals that usually do not pair bond "settle down" and vice versa simply by messing with their brains exposure to those two hormones.

Swans and dolphins have life partners. Dolphins are one of the few animals that have sex exclusively for pleasure. Just like you, you wee sinning stop-out!

No, it explains both. Bonds form between man and woman because (evolutionary speaking) both are required in order for their offspring to survive. If a man and a woman had a baby, then the man ****ed off leaving the woman to raise the child on her own, fight off any predators, hunt her own food etc then there is virtually no chance of that baby surviving. Therefore it is vital for the survival of the species that there is an overpowering bond between the man and the woman that will ensure that man will stick around after conception.
