For a start, I don't even know what you mean by the phrase 'history has evolved'. That's a new one on me.

Anyway, the period you're referring to (let's call it the modern west) and its welfare security is what, 100 years old at best? You're looking for changes to millions of years of evolution in a 100 year period in a gene pool of billions of people. It's absurd.

I dont doubt that societal pressures of the time can shape our behaviour, but such hard wired instincts are not flushed out if a species because of such an insignificant period of time.

It would be similar to asking why, if the sole purpose of having sex is to reproduce, are we able to maintain arousal and have sex when we know we're using contraceptives.

 

Because women lie that they're on the pill and real men don't use rubbers.

:deal Everybody needs a bit of loving now and again, Iv'e had some right beasts in my time, usually after quite a bit alcohol, on one occasion I woke up looked over to what was laying next to me and ****ing left in disgust, problem was it was my flat, I didn't go back for 2 weeks, stayed at my mums instead.
