Agreed. The Authorities still shouldn't have attacked and murdered all those people though, especially when they did nothing to provoke them.

Religion is a joke. When you die, you are dead and never to return (unless you are cryogenically preserved and then revived in years to come, as people are trying). When you die, it will be like before you were born. Where were you when Jack Dempsey gave Jess Willard a hiding? The world was here. The universe was here. The sun was shining, the world was going on and where were you? NOWHERE. In 100 years your body will consist of cold bones in a grave and mentally you will be in the same place you were when Dempsey beat Willard, which is NOWHERE.

Religious people are too cowardly to believe this and want to believe that they are special snowflakes. They could learn from great scientists like Carl Sagan (who I watch on youtube almost daily) but no, they are so cowardly that they delude themselves that God made everything and God will take care of them and love them when they and their loved ones die. It's really a mark of the stupidity of humanity.

Gotta be first time a large majority of this forum would be on Livra's side though. Fair play to him, harsh with it but that's Livra.

Jim Jones was the maddest IMO. Even crazier end than 'tank through a wall' as well.

my issue is that despite at least 20x in this thread expressing my views of beleiving in science to the same degree as most of you, and not following the bible word for word just using it as a guide just in the same way it would be silly to believe everything you read in a newspaper as the bible is after all written by man....when i ask the question can you prove that god does not exist i am hit with scientific facts, bible contradictions and also mocking off my faith. some of the arguments put forward have been as good as "i know you are but what am I"

When i was 23 I had a car accident where I collided with a A man on a motor cycle. When the accident happened I had not been to mass for almost 5 years except the odd occasion purely to keep my mother happy. I saw this man lying on the ground and I watched him dying. at that point the most remarkable thing happened. I barley listened a day when i was at school or at mass when i was young. i can barley concentrate for 5 minutes now when i was a kid it was worse. But at that moment i rememberd a prayer thats known as the serenity pray and I spoke those words.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

and at the end I said.

If this man is to die, allow me to accept it

I spoke that almost word for word. In the time following I felt guilt, I felt sadness for what had happened but the words that I spoke kept me strong. The prayer saved my life. Without the teachings of the bible and the church as a young man I may have never heard those words and thats why I am a believer in Jesus as I believe that he saved me.

Since that time and before I have lost family members, witnessed tragedy and my faith has always allowed me to accept what has happened. I believe this is Gods way of continually testing me and when the bad things have happened I prey for God to lead those people. You can say that I am just an emotionally strong person but its my belief that God has made me that way and that I will continue to be that way forever. I hope that these is not but there may be moments in my future that cause me to doubt my faith but that is only natural.

Now you can say "well if there was a God he would have saved the man" and you can bring up the Wars in Africa and the Tsunami in Sri Lanka and i have no explanation for what happened. I have no explanation of Gods plan for me and the the world we live in.

Almost all of the wars on the world right now have some sort of religious influence. But thats for all the wrong reasons and the people taking part in these events have been controlled by men who are not influenced by faith, but my power and greed. If you read the bible it will tell you not be seduced by these things. If these men were to follow the God the way that I do these events would not be happening. But the men involved do not understand there faith the way that I and other true followers of God do.

The disregard for the teachings of Jesus is all around us even in the church. Only last week I went to St.Pauls cathedral and found that you had to pay £15 to go in and could pay extra to get some sort of faster queue. I was so mad. One of the most famous stories in the bible is about Jesus getting angry when the heads of the temples were charging people to sacrifice animals in holly land and they had cash dispensers in the temples. But these things do not chance my faith.

I can not prove that God exists and neither can any Christian or follower of a faith. God is unexplainable. His actions are unexplainable. God doesn't conform to time, God is not human he is beyond what any of us can imagine. He doesn't contradict any scientific research even if its contradicted in the scriptures because they were not written by God.

You can think I am deluded. Think I am a fool. But I am happy and I am in a good place and I owe that to God. I have experienced Gods love, that is my proof that he exists and nobody can tell me, nor do you have the right to tell that what I experienced was not his love.

Fleaman I am sorry if I mocked you.
