i'd hope so.if athletes are jumping higher and longer and running faster then i think its only logical that a modern fighter beats an old timer.
A modern fighter dosn't necesarily beat an old timer who is 20 years past their prime, as history shows. That in itself should prove that boxing does neither relies on athletic prowess in the same way as track sports, nor advances in the same way.
There is as much time seperating Louis and Wlad as there is Lyle and Jeffries. Even Ali is an old timer now. His prime was nearly 50 years agao!
Interesting fight, stylistically -- if Jeffries upright and is agressive, Lyle can counter; and vice versa, if Lyle is agressive, Jeffries can go into his crouch-shell-and-counter mode. Or maybe not interesting; it's quite possible a waiting game could develope.
I assume he would KO them just like he KO'd all those other top-flight heavyweights. Oh that's right, outside of tin-chin Shavers, he never KO'd anyone of note.
that's right. this is what I have been saying lately. But I think there's no doubt that he could punch, his strength and power were his main attribute
Based on the film evidence I have to pick Lyle. I just haven't seen enough of Jeffries to confidently pick him. What little quality film I have seen shows Jeffries stalking, clinching and ocassionally punching his opponent. Oddly enough I don't see any jabs and that would be one punch that would help Jeff find the range against a big modern HW like Lyle who was a pretty good boxer in his own right. In Jeffs day he was a big fish in a somewhat smaller pond of HW's. Against Lyle he would be a good sized fish against another good sized or even bigger fish.
