Where is the link to this alleged quotation? Where can we read the article? Your credibility, which when it comes to Jeffries and most accomplished white heavies is near zero is on the line - Mendoza.

So, in other words, it BS, you're lying again, and you can't produce it. Yeah, I thought so.

Now if you want to save whatever is left of your reputation in this thread, you might as well read Jeffries quote from a newspaper, which I produced that mentions Johnson as a possible next title opponent in the year 1904 as you are confused again.

You see, I produce facts to back up what I say, you run and hide when asked for them. At times, you'll pull up a book, and let someone else do the speaking for you, but you also guilty of cherry-picking quotes from books, and omitting stuff that undermines your agenda.

Nope Johnson rated Fitzsimmons as the best heavyweight before himself. McVey the toughest ,Langford the most dangerous.Jeannette the best in a finish fight. Nope ,it isnt a fact that Johnson pulled out of fight with Langford that was signed in1909 which is what your dishonest post implies.
Johnson signed to fight Langford in Sept1908 the fioght to take place at the National Sporting Club London the purse to be £3000.Once champion on Dec26th 1908 Johnson declared his price for a title defence was $30,000 the same as Burns received to defend against him.
Joe Jeannette was never an," old friend "of Johnson's he hated his guts and never missed an opportunity to disparage him in print even to the extent of lying about his weight in their last fight. When Johnson defended his title against Jeffires both Jeannette and Langford were loudly vociferous about picking Jeffries to beat Johnson and both were made to look a right pair of ****s when Johnson wiped the floor with him!

Where was their racial loyalty there? Johnson owed them nothing!

Johnson signed to fight Jeannette twice in NY, he signed to fight both Langford and McVey in Australia ,it's a matter of public record.

I've many times given the dates, site of the fights, promoters and purses and the reasons why the fights did not happen plus interviews with the promoters going in to detail why they pulled the plug on them, which were published in the national newspapers.
No bull****,bluster ,prevarication , ignoring the facts ,and just plain downright lying will alter these irrefutable and easily verifiable FACTS!
You are a compulsive LIAR ,who proves it daily.

Why did you bring Johnson into the equation?

I compared to Patterson, who gets lambasted (for example by you) for going two years only facing the third ranked contender. Jeffries went two year without facing any rated opponent at all going by the rating you posted. That's just simple facts.

    Mcvey,

You owe us a quote on the lie you made up today. Going off tangent isn't going to save you! Liar, liar! Where is this quote in print that we can read? Your hiding behind what is not there. Utter crap. Like I said before your so full of it, you must have flush handles for ears.

    More evidence you can't read@

I said Johnson himself rated Corbett, and Fitz, above Langford, Jeannette, and McVey, his top 3 contenders from 1909-1914 which he avoided. This is 100% true.

You come back with " Nope Johnson rated Fitzsimmons as the best heavyweight before himself. " What does that have to do with what I said, and Jeffries by the way KO'd Fitz TWICE. See what I mean, my facts sting you, so you come back with something unrelated, only to be countered again.

The rest of the garbage you wrote means little. All I see is excuses. If you sign to fight someone, you should honor it. In fact you said so yourself! Johnson did not! He ran from Langford. End of!

Patterson's had some terrible title defenses. You can tell me where they are ranked, but they include a guy making his pro debut ( Rademacher ) who floored Patterson, Brian London, and Tom McNelley. He lost to Ingo, and was blasted out in round one vs Liston.

Most will tell you Patterson was avoiding Liston for a while. More than two years, wouldn't you agree?

So really Patterson has perhaps one title defense win over a top ranked #1 guy as champion. Jeffries has three such wins.

    Better?

And I don't disparage Patterson, I view him about even with Ezzard Charles for example.

I do not think any long tenured champion ( 5+ years ) has not gone two years without facing his #1 guy, do you. Give me some names, there might be one. So holding anyone to not facing their #1 standard is a bit unfair. Not facing them in several years, okay that is different.

Seriously, you need to seek professional help, you are not well Pal!:shakehead:

"On December 26, 1908, Jack Johnson defeated Canadian Tommy Burns to win the heavyweight championship. Jeffries publicly criticized Burns for giving Johnson a shot at the title. "The Canadian never will be forgiven by the public for allowing the title of the best physical man in the world to be wrested from his keeping by a member of the African race," Jeffries stated. "I refused time and again to meet Johnson while I was holding the title, even though I knew I could beat him. I would never allow a negro a chance to fight for the world's championship, and I advise all other champions to follow the same course."

Patterson faced three number 1 contenders. That's indisputable. He had some fillers (Rademacher, London and McNeely) but he never had a year when he didn't defend against at least a nr 3 ranked contender. Jeffries had two such years. In fact he didn't defend against any ranked contender those years (going by the posted rankings).

    These are all facts.

Jim Jeffries was a very active world heavyweight champion for his time. In regards to the assertion that Jeffries ducked Jack Johnson, there may be some validity to it. But keep in mind that it was a different era.

It is very true that black heavyweights didn't get a fair shake when it came to getting a shot at the world heavyweight championship during that time. Moreover, Johnson really had not established himself as a gate attraction except in Los Angeles during Jeffries' reign as the champion. But Los Angeles really was not a major city during the first five years of the 20th century. It was estimated Los Angeles had a population of only 200,000 during 1905.

Oh jeeez comparing Patterson’s reign to Jeffries? Jeffries blasted out the top men of his era in title defenses and took on they divisons biggest hitters

Damato protected Patterson as much as any manager in history. When he wasn’t taking on Johansson and Liston, Damato was handpicking unathletic boxers who couldn’t punch hard to threaten Patterson (Harris, London, Radamacher, mcneeley)...he steered clear of the division’s big punchers unless he had to (Johannson Liston) and that’s when Patterson got knocked out

As you say Floyd faced the divisions two most lethal punchers

He also faced his two best challengers by some distance. It's doubtful if you can say that about Jeffries, seeing how he ducked Johnson.

Whether you think Floyd ducked Folley or Machen, Jeffries ducked a clearly better challenger in Johnson.

The worst Floyd did any year as a champ was to face the nr 3 contender. Jeffries went two years without facing a single ranked contender (according to the posted rankings).

So while I think Jeffries was the greater fighter, seeing how he went unbeaten as champ, Floyd probably did a better job facing the best of his era, seeing how he faced the two undoubtedly best challengers as champion. Not besting, but facing.

Jeffries was an excellent champion, one of the best ever imo.

It's a huge shame we don't have any quality footage of him in his prime to judge him.

I struggle to envision him being any worse than John Ruiz who was a top 5 mainstay for a large portion of the modern era, but I just haven't seen enough to judge his skillset adequately.
