Interestingly, before the Johnson fight, Fitzsimmons urged Jeffries to use a more 'stand-up' approach to fighting. He claimed that the reason Jeffries took so much punishment against him in the second fight was because he opted for the crouching style, which allowed Fitzsimmons to crack him rather easily, rather than the more 'stand-up' style which served him better when he won the title. Funnily enough, Jeffries crouching style would have probably faired better against Johnson, not that it would have made much difference...
Leon Was never that good to begin. In general fighters improve a lot as they gain experince. I think you should re-read the article, SuzieQ. It does not say Fitz punished Jeffries. By the way, I noticed you like to shave off pounds of fighters you dislike, and add pound to fighters you like. This is a bit of a double standard. My question to you was unanswered. If 183 pounds too light to beat Jeffries?
I agree. A lot of old timers spoke highly of Jeffries, but looking at his record I just don't see it.
