Thanks to Janitor ,Mendoza and now Russell,Jim Jeffries features prominently on here how do you think he would do against the Jerry Quarry who beat the Monster punching Shavers, the powerful Ron Lyle, and ended Mac Fosters winning streak?Quarry at 6 foot and around 198 is bigger than Tom Sharkey ,and heavier than Fitz and Corbett,he excelled against big heavies would he be able to dent the Boilermakers chin and get his respect?
I think he would perform a counter-punching masterpiece on Jeff, stopping him around 11 with Jeff still chugging forward and still swinging from the rafters when it would be halted.
Jeff wins of course! Jerry always came up short in his biggest bouts and he is beating Jim Jeffries? Jeff by stoppage within 7 rounds.
Jerry Quarry performed very well when a fight was going his way. When the other guy started controlling the action, Quarry tended to get frustrated and gas. He liked to brawl, so against Jeffries he would have his moments. But as the fight went on, I would expect Jeff to get stronger and Jerry to fade. I do not see Quarry doing much damage to Jeff, and the latter's left hooks to the body would wear Jerry down, as happened in Frazier-Quarry II. I would expect Jeffries to stop Quarry inside of ten rounds.
Quarry was very good later in his career, as a youngster he was strong but very green, as he got older he became a giant killer ....Quarry can take anything Jeff can dish out and I suspect the same from Jeff...so this fight can go the distance or a cut stop (quarry cut) but I think the length of the fight becomes a factor because Jeff had late stamina and proven stamina over a longer period.....Hard to judge based on film of Jeff but could be a decision in his favor if his pedigree holds up true
I like Quarry to take this one. Jeff didn't have the kind of multi dimensional attack or ability to throw the fast sort of combos that it took to beat Jerry at his best. Quarry's excellent counterpunching ability wins this.
There is film! And he looks....basic. Even if you give him his gloves I don't think he'd hurt Quarry too bad. Fight to the finish and excessive clinching permitted? Who knows?!
By the time of the Munro fight, Jeffries was something of a marvel. He wasn’t just big, strong and fast, he was also out boxing fighters like Corbett. He also had a sustained and vicious body attack, which left everybody he fought, a horrible mess. Would he beat Quarry? My guess is yes. He would be a lot faster and more durable than Lyle and Shavers, and he might well be a good enough technician to outbox Quarry. If Quarry wants to trade with him, then he is going to get his torso beaten to mush like everybody else Jeffries fought.
He looks better than Quarry looked against ali in getting stopped in 3 rounds. In fact as an old man coming out of a six year layoff against arguably the greatest fighter of all time, and one who isnt too far removed from Muhammed Ali in terms of ability and achievement (by any standards) he looks a hell of a lot more competitive and is able to make a lot closer fight than Quarry could against Ali. I cant see any way that Quarry makes the distance against Jeffries. He is just not in the same class (though to be fair i consider him one of the most overated fighters on ESB).
