People seem to forgot what a huge asset Manny Steward has become with Wlad Klit since hooking-up in 2004... YES! Things got off to a rough start with that KO loss to Lamon Brewster initially, but since that time, Wlad and Manny have done nothing wrong.... Wlad Klit from 2006 to the present time here in '10---WASTES Jimmy Jeff in a time machine.... TRUTH!

If he enjoyed holding and grabbing smaller men, prison would hold no fears for him would it? Shawshank Redemption ?

Having gone into it, I tend the the conclusion that Jeffries was a puncher.

I think that the fact that he needed rounds to wear fighters down was due to factors other than lack of power. The fact that his style was a lot more defensive and reactive than is often thought, especialy early in his career.

What I do note is that the people on the business end of the punches tended to rate his power.

A fighter dosnt have to fight a Wladamir Klitschko or George Foreman to get his chin checked.

Jeffries was fed to the best fighters in the division, prety much from his pro debut, and he never tasted the canvas untill he met Jack Johnson.

Now Ali is rightly regarded as having an all time chin, but he was droped by lesser punchers than the ones Jeffries was fed to early in his career.

Jeffries had a chin like an anvil.

He proved his ability to take a great punch against Bob Fitzsimmons, from all accounts.
Fitzsimmons is rated alongside Langford, Dempsey, Joe Louis as a puncher, by the people who spanned those eras.

Huh? Speculations? As Champion Jeffries fought from 215-230+. This weight is more than Ali, Holmes, or Holyfield at their peak weights. You don't think Jeffries would be a heavyweight today? Also, if Jeffries benefited from modern nutrition, he would be even bigger and strong than he was 110 years ago.

What people dont realise is the Jeffries was actualy dehydrating himself to cut weight in some of his early fights, in the misguided beleif that this would improve his stamina.

I dont think he ever entered the ring under 215lbs as champion.

It's not Jeffries size that troubles me but the size of the fighters he went life and death with.

I'm in no need for a recitation of Tom Sharkey being made of titanium and his past wrestling giant squid on the bottom of the ocean floor. Save it.

How exactly did Jeffries go life and death with these fighters?

He crushed Fitzsimmons twice and dominated Sharkey in their first encounter.

It is true that Sharkey gave him a close fight in their second encounter, but Jeffries basicaly took the fight with his left arm oput of action. How many champion would take on their No1 contender with only one good arm?

Regardless those were good fighters. Fitz was a great fighter, I don't know about Sharkey.

Even IF Jeff struggled it's no real shame. Holmes struggled with Snipes, Louis looked shabby against Godoy. And while those men were big, they weren't great by any means.

I totally agree with the point that Jeff only fought smaller men so how can we estimate how he'd fight someone who goes 6'6 and 240 ?
And Wladimir would be at an advantage there because he fights men of exactly Jeff's dimensions all the time.
But it's wrong to say "Jeff struggled with a 170 pounder therefore he'd get killed by a 240 pounder" : we all know boxing doesn't work like that.
