    This is not the starving,dehydrated,farmer jeffries this is the extremly underrated,cat quick,grizzly strong,mule stubburn,great athlete who could evade lots of blows wile landing his own do to an excelent ability to measure distance,who could endure punches like no other,and hit like a freight train,not the shell who fought johnson.

    I have a very high oppinion of Jim Jeffries and rate him as the seventh best hw all-time. But he never faced a combination of chin, workrate, power and relentlessness like the Rock would bring to the table. Under modern rules i think Jeffries would go the distance and give Rocky a hell of a fight but would drop a decision. Something like 9 rounds to 6 with one or two kds on both sides.
    Under the rules of his time Jeffries has a better chance but still would lose. Rocky´s stamina wasn´t much worse than that of the old-timers. Marciano by KO between Round 20 and 30.

    I rate Jeffries well, and he was an iron man in terms of durability, but i will pick Marciano evrytime

    I agree lowe. On a sidenote, 5'8 180lb inferior swarmer tom sharkey twice gave jeffries hell over 45 rounds, if jeffries cant stop the smaller less durable sharkey in 45 rounds, i doubt he would ever stop marciano in 15 rounds.

    I think highly of Jeffries but I think Rocky's pace and workrate will be too much for him

    im actully not to sure here Jeffries was 6'2" and weighed around 220 and was one of the best allrouund atheleats ever also never drooped in his career until the jonhnson fight

    I would say

    Power=Jeffries
    Speed=Jeffries
    Chin=Tie
    Durabilty=Tie
    Will to Fight=tie maybe Marciano
    Conditioning=Tie maybe Marciano
    Work rate=Marciano

    To me the fight is a Toss up

    Amazing, Sharkey who was 183 pounds in the Jeffries fight, a was small, yet Marciano who at his best was say 5 pound heavier was not. In truth, Sharkey's general tale of the tape, and reach was greater than Marciano's. And Jeffries beat the best verison of the hall of fame Sharkey.

    Jeffries beat Shakrey as a green up and comer, then injured as a champion and floored him and had hurt in both matches.

    If you want a fair comparison, Marciano never beat anyone like Jeffries, nor was he tested on the way up as quickly.

    I think Rocky's intangibles were about as battle tested as they can be, save fighting with a debilitating injury to a critical moving part. The ability to take punches is a different story. Rocky was floored by the two best punchers he fought in Walcott and Moore, and judging by news reads stunned by lesser punchers in Vingo, and Lowry. Don’t be so sure he could take Jeffries power for the distance.

    I would feel comfortable picking Rocky to stop him, say around 10-12 of a 15 round fight. Fitz and Sharkey gave Jeffries enough trouble to make me think that Marciano, essentially the best of both put together, would beat Jeffries.

    Jeffries fought in a completely different era of boxing than Marciano did. 15 or under I'd put my money on Marciano with no qualms whatsoever. 15+ it gets interesting, but I'd still feel fairly good about betting on Rocky.

    As a side note, I think Marciano punched harder than Fitzsimmons in an "absolute" sense.

    Breaking bones is hard to do in boxing. The human bone is about 10 times as hard to crack as cement. The gloves in Jeffries day were lousy protection for the hands, often tore and created cuts when the horsehair exterior split or tore, and generally weighted about 6 ounces.

    Jeffries best wins were over smaller older men a little past their best ,but to be fair to him ,he had shown his mettle beating and drawing with very good fighters when little more than a novice,he probably matches Marciano in stamina ,and would be superior in strength imo.I would give the edge to Rocky for one punch power.Assessing their chins is hard because neither met a really big man who could bang like a Louis or Baer,I think I would give the nod to Jeffries as he met Choynsky and Fitz ,smaller men but terrific hitters,neither could floor him but Fitz made a mess of him ,cuts restance about the same.Over 15 rds I take Marciano by a close dec,he isnt stopping Jeffries imo.

    Marciano = boxer
    Jeffries = wrestler

    A wrestler isnt beating the ATG prime boxer at boxing. Marcianos punching technique was superb and his boxing skill vastly underrated. Not to mention Marciano was 1 of the best conditioned, P4P strongest fighters we've seen.
