Scenario 1: middleweight Toney Scenario 2: light heavyweight Toney Scenario 3: cruiserweight Toney Scenario 4: heavyweight Toney Do these scenarios all go exactly the same way? Jeffries from the Ruhlin fight, since that’s the footage we have to go on.
I wish i could judge Jefferies based on the film available but it is such poor quality that i can't judge him. I think light-heavyweight and above Toney has too much skill and likely will decision Jeff over 12 rounds and 15 rounds. The only way i see Jeff beating Toney is if the fight is scheduled for 25 rounds or more. Jeff's size advantage would likely allow him to wear Toney down over the long run.
This. We have no idea how good he really was. His contemporaries thought he was a beast. But clearly by the time the Johnson footage rolled about he was a spent force. I guess the question is "can Toney beat a rough tough guy who is extremely strong for his size and who can go for as long as it takes?" History has answered that: both yes, and no.
