Power in the 10 range should crack any chin on the planet. Remains to be seen if Ortiz has that kind of power with better opposition so I disagree with the OP on that point. Ortiz does have nice counter shots which is an abnormal abillity in the heavyweights. Remember everybody was getting out jabbed by Wlad who hasn't had to worry about being countered in ages. I expect Jennings to win by a close decision like he tends to do. He's not the type of fighter that definitively beats opponents. He'd be wise to test Ortiz's stamina and make him work faster than he wants. I think people are overrating Ortiz because he looks like a killer. We shall see.

Honestly, I haven't seen much of Ortiz, but it was enough. Yes, dude looks like killer, and can punch extremely hard. The rest is enigma for me (until tomorrow, at least). Jennings is underrated here. Of course, he is skillful and awkward, we shall see his chin (although I think it's tested and proven against Wlad).

    Ortiz won't respect Jennings power.
Jennings will respect Ortiz power and timed counters.
Ortiz will take the center of the ring, and control the action.
Jennings will use more energy on the back foot.
Jennings will have a reach advantage, and trying to beat Ortiz to the jab.

    What???

Any decent boxer that big has some power, and that's what he has. Nothing special. Parker would starch his ass.

This is a great fight, very difficult to predict (well, Jacobs Quillin was the same...). Somehow I feelJennings will edge it, he seems to be destined for a world title at some point and he paradoxically has more experience as a pro.

A draw would not surprise me either. Expect controversy.

Ortiz work the body real good might land uppercuts too, not like Kllitschko who targeted Jennings head from distance. That a different challenge for Jennings.
Really looking forward to this card !!!! Yunieski Gonzales vs a good russian and Gamboa back !

It's hard to gauge how good Ortiz is because his opposition has been so bad. He's like Wilder. So I'll have to go with Jennings.

HTF did he manage to fight fight Matias Ariel Vidondo for a vacant World Title fight? I never heard of the guy and Vidondo looked horrible. He fought Monte Barrett last year. I thought Barrett was totally washed up and retired like 5 years ago. He fought journeyman Bryon Polley last year with 18 losses going into the fight.

Seriously look at Ortiz's opposition it may actually be worse than Deontay Wilder.

Ortiz actually fought Bert Cooper in 2011.

Cooper was a decent HW contender in the late 1980's. Cooper has been washed up since 1991 for f'n 20 years when Ortiz fought him.

Cooper fought Foreman in 89, Ray Mercer in 90, Rid**** Bowe in 90, Holyfield in 91, and it was all down hill from there.

    Ortiz has fought all stiffs.

    :huh

His best performances were in 91, and 92 against Holyfield and Moorer respectively. He was inconsistent at that point but not shot.

I agree though. Ortiz's resume is dreadful, with his best opponents being Kayode and a shot Barrett. With the former not even counting on his record anymore due to a failed drug test. He looks promising, but he just hasn't been in with anyone good enough to be a heavy favorite here, nor has he gone rounds. Smart pick is Jennings who has proven himself late in fights, and has faced and beaten FAR better opposition.

91 and early 92 he peeked. At was downhill from there on. Cooper went from fighting the elite level top heavyweights in the World and having some good moments. To being brought in as an opponent and destroyed by Larry Donald, Corrie Sanders, in 93 and 94.

Jennings best win is Szpilka, the Perez win is just a paper win. It would have been a draw without the infamous point deduction.

Is Szpilka really much better than Kayode? Ffs Kayode drew with a roided Tarver, i dont think Artur could do that!

If he doesn't get caught early I think Jennings will win on points.

Jennings isnt getting caught by Ortiz. He's a plodder. I reckon Bryant will outwork him to a decision.
