i've long been an admirer of (the now retired?)heavyweight contender jeremy williams.he had more than decent boxing skills, combined with dynamite punching power.i was always mystified though at his decision to fight in the heavyweight division as,at a relatively small 6'0" he was generally at an immediate disadvantage in natural size and weight to most of his (serious)opponents.i'm sure that, had he been able to boil down to cruiser,he could have won a 'legitimate' world title.a pity then, that he'll be remembered as little more than an honest journeyman in the heavier weight division, which is a lot less than he deserves.any other esber's with an opinion on this guy?

Step above tough guy level.. I liked watch him fight guys his own level as he made good fights... never was gonna be much of a threat to top guys.. not enough power, speed, or technique.

if this is the guy that Peter basically killed then he made the transition to MMA and has been pretty successful.

He's currently undefeated in mma with a record of 5-0. Not sure why he's sort of retired from that too either, he hasnt fought in ages, boxing or mma.

:deal even as weak as the division is, there are still very good fighters in it. I too think Williams was pretty good, but just wasn't good enough to be a champion.

    This.
I was a big fan of Williams, Always wondered what dude would have been like at LHW/CW. (Fulltime)

Don't even know if he was ever capable to make those limits....
    (Just talking I guess)

Agreed, he was never known as a slacker in the gym, he just didn't have the talent. I would say Corry Sanders was probably the biggest waste of heavyweight talent in recent years.

American-level heavyweights make good journeymen and gatekeepers for our upcoming Euro-prospects, but any American-level fighters with championship aspirations should aim for the cruiserweight divisions, which is an altogether less challenging division to compete directly resulting from a lower concentration of Eurotalent.

I've known Jeremy since he was little. I trained in his dad's gym way, way back in the day. Jeremy could box like a dream but for some reason, he (for a time anyway) started using the D'Amato 'peek-a-boo' system - I think he might have even started training under Rooney - he just was not big enough and IMO, he started getting hit way too much.

I would have loved to have seen a Vassiliy Jirov vs Jeremy Williams match just for the entertainment of it.
