Why isn't Jeremy Williams discussed in MMA forums? He would be the perfect opponent for Toney with 50 professional boxing matches and undefeated in MMA.
Jeremy Williams was the only guy from boxing who I really wanted to see in MMA because he took it seriously. He came in shape, was a top boxer and a black belt in Judo. In the fights he did have he seemed to show some versatility. I don't think Toney could beat Williams. I'm sure Williams would go straight to the ground. He should be smart enough to know he can't hang with him standing.
Achilles, he could hang with Toney standing. Not win, but its not like he has no idea what he is doing as you say he was a very experienced fighter. Thats a damn good fighter and he would not get blown away standing up, particularly if he had developed kicks. A lot of Toneys defence would be **** against kicks and knees, the shoulder roll doesnt work when somebody is throwing a LHK at your dome.
Yep, Williams could well murder Toney standing up, he was always a quick heavy handed puncher and with those little gloves, ouch. Suppose the little gloves thing works both ways though:twisted:
I am not saying that he would murder Toney. He could well have gotten sparked. Just that I wouldnt expect him to get blown away standing in any way.
He could stand with Toney but Toney can sting with big gloves and he catches you with punches you don't see. Remember, Toney's punches should be better with 4-6oz gloves on. Williams had good stand up. He was a serious fighter but an inshape Toney is too much. It comes back to development and execution. Toney may learn loads of ground game and be fine. Guys have shoulder rolled in MMA for one move but if you do it constantly, you'll get hurt. Williams was a boxer but in no way relied on it in his MMA fights so again who knows. Williams could stand with Toney but if he chose to keep it there, he'd be at a disadvantage. Then again, Williams could always bang and with small gloves he might hurt Toney. Toney is more talented standing and he always had sneakey power to go with his skills. Williams should feel him out on his feet but why do that when he is so much better than Toney at grappling.
Yeah, I think he would throw Toney pretty quickly and finish it on the ground. I just thought I would say I would expect Williams to be able to hang with Toney standing.
I did say Could Take you're point though - Slightly overetimated Williams there:good Would be a good fight this, would be harsh on Toney though being his first MMA fight
